DEVILMAN

I watched Devilman Crybaby not too long ago (in fact, I started watching it around the same time it debuted on Netflix). I wanted to do some fan art of something that is relevant at the moment, so I decided I'd go with Devilman while the iron is still hot.

It's funny that a lot of people now are really into Devilman, as I've kinda have been into it for quite awhile now, so I hate to say it like this, but I was into Devilman before it was cool!

But part of it has more to do with me being into old school anime lately, and not just stuff from the 80's or 90's, but even before that as well, with Go Nagai's work being someone from an era of anime and manga that I find myself really liking, and again, this was all before Devilman Crybaby became as popular as it is now (though I should mention it does annoy me just a tad bit that they gave Crybaby a modern 2010's anime look rather than the really old school 70's anime look matching Go Nagai's art style).

Good work on this, BBM. I am familiar with the classic OVAs from 1987 and 1990 and I need to see the new show. ^^

Thank you. Fun fact, about the OVAs from 1987 and 1990 you mentioned, there was actually a third one that was part of that series (well, sort of, how the "third" OVA fits into the canon of either that incarnation of Devilman or the series is a bit complicated, and would require a thorough goole search to understand why) called AMON: The Apocalypse of Devilman.

There was also a anime series that came out around the same time the original manga by Go Nagai was being published, but all I know about it is that it was toned waaaaaayy the hell down, and just by watching the opening, it feels way more like a 70's tokusatsu show in a vein similar to Ultraman, Kamen Raider or Zyuranger (the Japanese version of Power Rangers), than the version most people are familiar with.

But yeah, I think you should check out the show when you get a chance to. But I might warn that the new show probably isn't for everyone. There's some stuff in the it that even George R.R. Martin would excessive, especially in the later half of the show, without getting to deep into spoiler town.

I see, I might know of it....

I know of it. Not to my interest. ^^

Sounds swell.
