Description Next in the DC New Age heroes is the new generation Batman, young African-American Wade Garrison. Although Wade has no ties to Bruce bloodline-wise, he shares his goals for hope for a better world.

Wade's story begins with his parents, Matthew and Delilah Garrison, who were geneticists attempting to cure cancer itself. However, their knowledge had caught the eye of Ra's al Ghul, the Demon's Head as well as leader of the League of Assassins. He wanted to create a perfect soldier for his quest of cleansing humanity into a managable number. He killed the Garrisons, took their research AND their infant son, Wade.

Wade over the years was experimented on by Ra's in his attempt to create the perfect soldier. One of his own agents, Takeshi, took Wade under his wing once Wade at just 8 had killed his first person, discovering his fear of taking another life. Takeshi saw the kind soul in Wade, raising him as his own son, training his mind and body in the art of the true warrior, as opposed to what Ra's' agenda was.

Soon, Takeshi told Wade the truth of his own origins, with his parents' death, and Takeshi helping him to escape to America, his home. Wade made it, but Takeshi stayed behind to give Wade time to escape, at the cost of his life.

After making it to America, Wade came to Gotham City, which had suffered a great deal since the mysterious disappearance of the Batman. While wandering, having entered a bastion of silence, he ran into a man in trouble from a gang calling themselves the Jokerz. Taking them down effortlessly, Wade assisted the man, Alfred Pennyworth to his home.

Alfred knew that the young man was distraught, and explained about how the Batman, in spite of using fear, was a beacon of hope for a world with such sadness, including a place like Gotham.

Hearing his stories, and soon discovering the Batcave, Wade took it upon himself to be a new seeker of justice, much like his predecessor had done, but he would honor the heritage of the warrior he learned from Takeshi, taking on the guise of the Batman.

The Batman has no known superpowers, other than being an excelling martial artist (among some of the best in the world), trained in karate, judo, tae kwon do, and muay thai, as well as having learned ninjitsu, the art of stealth as well as being trained in a variety of weapons, including guns which he REFUSES to use, a multitude of languages, and various vehicles.

The only unique skill Wade possesses is that his genes were enhanced to assist in his learning process, but he himself has a sharp mind and body due to his training. He often carries a katana, nunchakus, and shurikens on his person to use for combat purposes when his fists and feet aren't enough.

Ah, Wade. One of the most enigmatic of the new generation, just as Bruce was of ours. But Wade differs because of his opening up slowly.

When he first came to us, when I first met him, Wade was quiet, always sitting in the shadows, but following the tasks ahead as part of the group. It was not until sometime later on that he had began to speak again, opening up to all of us about his past.

The way I see it, Wade's past is what is most frightening and the reason why is because of his being made to be a weapon.

He overcame this with our defeating Ra's al Ghul, yet he still is worried about what else al Ghul had been working on at the time of his being turned into a weapon.

This fear will keep him up at night, but I know Wade will strive. When he gets going, he has no fear at all.
