Surveying the room, he noticed most were in their cups. He opted to wait a few moments before transitioning to a tender, more intimate melody, sensing that his audience was gradually losing steam as the night wore on. These were the stragglers who would eventually amble homeward or seek refuge in the rooms situated at the back.
Amidst the shadows, his eyes caught a figure he had previously mistaken for a dwarf. Instead, it was a halfling, completely absorbed in watching him. Their gazes connected, and he conveyed a subtle nod and smile. The halfling returned the gesture.
Peculiar, he thought. It was unusual to encounter halflings in these parts, and the few who did make an appearance only stopped to re-supply before hastily departing. He couldn't help but wonder about the young wanderer's tale.
