He watched with trepidation as the caravan -- along with all their water, weapons and supplies they had counted on to make the journey -- slowly rolled away across the sand. The armed guards on the last cart vigilantly maintained their crossbows' aim on him. His stolen bow and two arrows was all he needed to wipe the smirks from their faces. All too soon they would disappear behind the hill they were already circling.

A pained groan came from the shade of a small, nearby boulder. It was the elf druid, nursing her wounds in the meager respite offered by the rock. The sound ignited a hot surge of fury and despair in his chest as he continued to watch the dwindling wagons, but he couldn't afford to let his emotions control him, not in this critical moment. They had to move, had to re-trace the three leagues to the south back to the last town. The ominous arrival of night was a few hours away, and the stark, lethal reality of their situation was becoming ever more apparent.
