shotokan was the art form used by the guy that capcom was inspired by to create Ryu. Hell Capcom was also inspired but a famous thailand kickboxer that "amazingly" looks like sagat.
But in videogame world, shotokan is the most powerful art form hence ryu being the most powerfullest man on earth. if anyone was going to be stronger then him that person would also use the same shotokan styles. Only better. Plus since ever one loved playing as ryu, ken, chun li , guile & m bison (espically ryu and ken) they just made another guy. As a bonus for Super street fighter II turbo (only in arcades / 3d0 / PC and much later on in the anniversary editions of street fighter) Akuma was such a fucking hard boss to beat in that game it was horrible just to watch fight him. He was cheap with his teleports and his air fire balls, this is when you could only save up one Super for the only 3 rounds. He was soo badass they didnt even have a protrait for him in the versus mood, just a black silotte.
just search for it on google.
Ok, I just realized Im a Street fighter fanboy. *beings to start crying in enjoy*

Nothing wrong with being a fan boy, at least now I know why they made shotokan such a strong style in that game.
