Oh man, not Ubuntu for the parent OS. Maybe Arch or Debian...

I think that apart from a webOS, the tabbed ui will be great for a normal OS. also, the address bar can give way to the menu bar of an application like kate or openoffice. My only concern about chromeOS and this... Firefox OS, is the issue of multitasking, when you need to have two or applications visible at once.

There's already tonnes of tabbed Window Managers giving you a tabbed UI for your OS.

Clean and nice, but probably usable only when You're online.

The new tablets should have a good simple interface by default, but they should have a button that swaps over to a highly raw format that shows the guts of the operating system.
At the push of a button, you go from Glory to Guts, then with another push, back to Glory.

what about an administrative gesture, like pressing down on all four corners of the screen? Then that prompts a password, then after entering it, it switches over to the administrative GUI, which would essentially be a good tiling window manager with a bash prompt at hand...of course, shift-F7 won't work any more, because no keyboard.
Or, maybe it could be typed through a virtual keyboard. Or maybe an "app". I don't think putting admin tasks into an app would be a good idea. It's annoying to think about all the administrative tasks being inside a single app, and it would essentially be a Linux distro inside this Linux distro, which is also annoying to think about.

Very cool; I love the idea of a Firefox OS. Incidentally, ever try Fire Commander as a file manager? Firefly's pretty awesome, but at least Fire Commander's compatible with newer versions of Fx. Just saying.

What I mean to say is, it has less issues with compatibility when you tweak the install.RDF file.

No problem. Incidentally, it's possible to load Fire Commander in a new tab; just create a bookmark linking to chrome://firecommander/content/firecommander.xul, then CTRL-click it to open in a new tab instead of the current one. Rather crude (and some of Firefox's keyboard shortcuts won't work with Fire Commander in the current tab), but it works decently.

Have you tried jolicloud ? I'm not sure if it is useful to have another cloud os, but your screen shot is very nice. I've used Ubuntu for a long time and it is very nice, but i guess Arch Linux would be a better base for a cloud os.

Nice work! Looks as polished as any of these "cloud" OS'. I imagine it can also be truly lightweight if you remove all the unnecessary daemons running in the background in a regular desktop linux based OS.
