Description Fairly rough, no smoothing involved. Each one taking approximately 10 minutes or so.

I highly recommend doing this from time to time. Grab a bunch of pictures and just start sketching. When you look back at them you'll realise how individual eyes can be. Full of character and history.

YES!!! The eyes are the mirror of the soul. Great Character in ALL of them! I personally try to highlight the eyes in my portraits. I believe the eyes is where you get the most emotion and eyes are the most effective way to get the audience drawn in.

The key is observation. These were sketched from reference pictures so the main thing is to get the shape of the eye right.

Every eye is different... like fingerprints! The way light reflects... the density of eyelashes... the curve of the lids... it's all about spotting the differences.

It's funny. When people look through my portfolio here in the 'real world', the Coltrane piece always draws a comment. That and the Minnie Driver.

Two of my least polished pictures are the most liked, which is why that technique appears all through my gallery.

The Minnie Driver one is great also. I think people enjoy non blended works, because they can see more of the love that we gave to the drawing..our pencil strokes and such.

Yeah I do things like this when I'm bored... I just take a pencil in my hand and draw eyes...
I like them, especially the one on the upper left side.
Good job!

yeah totally. i so Need to work especially on eyes, everytime no matter who I draw they all come out kind of the same and crappy. Also u didnt smooth. My art teacher in High school used to tell us, to not smooth. Dont know why.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I never tried smoothing. I prefer the organic, non-polished look although having seen some of the incredible portraits here on DA, I'm coming round to the idea.

It's all a matter of personal taste.
