Today I want to give my PERSONAL OPINION on what happened to RT, but be careful because I will not base it on in-depth research (I will leave this work to H.Bomberguy) but on what I saw in the series and what I learned from those who followed also the backstory.

Today I'm based on the story of RWBY; Managing the franchise and managing everything that isn't RWBY.

1. THE STORY OF RWBY

The story of RWBY was thought out in the right way in my opinion because it wasn't based on concepts that were too complicated or difficult to digest, big battles and... oh well for fans even big boobs/butts (in fanfiction).

But here Monty's talent ends and, although his importance in the series is undeniable, it is absurd to think that no one else was able to replicate his animation style (oh wait, there was someone, fired after his death of Monty and then that other one who definitely wasn't paid after months of work), so the writers wanted to focus their attention on the writing and the characters.

Kerry and Miles, they're amateur writers, that's all.

All the best people at writing say it's IMPOSSIBLE to have a story this clumsy after you've developed it in a year.

V9, for example, was already ready from V8, the script was already ready and they delayed the release of the volume for 1 year and in any case it was a simple semi-plagiarism of Alice in Wonderland.

Summarizing RWBY's mistakes is HARD, seriously we can spend YEARS describing every single mistake in the story. But I will limit myself to quickly stating the main errors, I will also be brutal.

Topics that are too heavy and complicated: If you don't know how to write about teenagers fighting against evil (99.99% of shonen anime have such a story) I doubt you are capable of creating a story about racism, homophobia and autism. A simple story doesn't mean a bad one.
TOO MANY characters: The story is about Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang ENOUGH. The story is not about or evolves around Qrow, JNPR, Oscar, Penny, etc... or at least it shouldn't. But when in stories about "groups of characters" there is a substantial difference between who leads the story and who follows it, this is completely unfounded by the fact that Jaune is the only character with a personality. The protagonists have nothing interesting to say.
Salem is the wrong enemy: Salem is meaningless, too strong and static. It seemed like a good idea, and it may be, but it's too powerful for characters who are fresh out of the academy. There is a need for central stories, for vicissitudes that concern events that are ultimately linked to Salem but which do not concern her directly. Why? Because then fans say, "So why doesn't he use his superpowers to just kill everyone?"
Collecting Simulator important stuff for the story: The biggest joke ever made by a writer. This is proof that they didn't have a story, because the characters are LITERALLY forced to travel the world and therefore stretch the broth in an artificial way. If you need a deus ex machina like this to have a long story, it means you have no creative ability.

There are other problems in the story, such as the passivity of the writers towards the fans, or how much the story is forced to make Jaune better. (JAUNE is an abyss of writing errors).

2. THE FRANCHISE MANAGEMENT

I'll start by stating the obvious:

An artist wants to change over time, like me.

I started by drawing only RWBY, but now I make other drawings of other things I like, why? Because change is normal. But especially because RWBY is NOT my story, and therefore as a creator I get bored drawing something thought up by others over and over again. Sometimes I go back to drawing RWBY, but not like before.

Again... I AM NOT THE CREATOR OF RWBY.

But the tables are turned and let's say that my work Dream Walkers has the same exact success.

My immediate reaction would be to SPAM stories on my series. Without thinking twice, and if I have used up the cartridges with x protagonists then I create y protagonists of the same universe with different stories, and then we combine x with y, and so other vicissitudes are created... I certainly wouldn't force a slow pace (unnecessary) to the series that brings me more revenue, is the opposite of a successful strategy.

Among failed video games, because they were made so randomly.

Always with ideas that were clever but never went anywhere, there was no commitment to what was being done for RWBY. The figurines made in a terrible way, with absurd prices.

We are talking about the most terrible mediocrity from a company that owes its success to the fans. Sure, you started from nothing, but then you had become something bigger and more successful. Quality is now a MUST, especially when you ask people for MONEY to look at your stuff.

You couldn't watch volume 9 of RWBY if you didn't pay, volume 9... the same volume where Jaune plagiarizes Ironwood, fumbles for some paper that dies while passing over Ruby who commits suicide.

This is a nice slap in the face to those who wanted to pay.

What could they do? Alternative stories on JNPR; On Qrow & Raven; On the other teams.

Not books, guys... you got people's attentions with a fighting anime, but who's going to read you a book? Then written by you?

But it seems like the simplest option, right? Instead of making a JNPR volume of 5 chapters and 5 more of each until they run out of topics, it was too difficult.

As I already said, if Dream Walkers had had the same success as RWBY I wouldn't have dared to think of other universes or other stories that didn't concern the main series, but rather I would have concentrated my efforts on the main series and what was left I used to side stories to expand the main story.

Let's put it simple: I would have done anything to keep the main story alive.

This is what Dragon Ball does (peace be upon Toriyama's soul), Naruto, One Piece, the series that I find myself bombarded every time by people who criticize the excessive number of characters in RWBY, are series that ironically do the opposite of RWBY and continue to churn out new stories.

How do they do it? Because they are simple.

And also because those behind it know how marketing works.

Why do you always hear that Gen:Lock is sucking money out of RWBY's mouth.
