Description This is one of the sketches I did for the Q&A in ImagineFX magazine. It was a guide to painting lichen. I thought I'd post it since it was published a couple of months ago.

Wow, this looks amazing! Concinving stonework is completely beyond me, as yet! Do you know which episode this got published in? I have not subscribed for long so I think I have must have missed it. Lovely convincing touches with the lichen and I like the mysterious fellow peeking out of that hole!

Thanks Karyn, I surprised myself with this Q&A. I didn't expect it to come out as well as did for the wall texture.

Too cool, I thought it was a picture taken with a camera. I love your work

BillCorbett In reply to fakkii2000 [2009-11-09 10:13:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much. I painted it greyscale first to give it a more photo-real look. It gave me more control over the colour layers I added too. The steps for this one are IFX as well (issue 50)

Nice. I like all the little subtle details in the stone.

BillCorbett In reply to solomon-russell [2009-11-09 10:11:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Solomon. It's mostly custom brush work built up in greyscale that gives those nice little details

A little bit, the custom brushes did most of the work

Alas, my version of Photoshop doesn't have that feature.

I use paintshop pro 9 or Artrage - I have photoshop but I don't use it much (does not perform well on my pc because I like to work really quick).

Really, Photoshop works really fast on my machine.
Painter for me lags big time. Some of the brush strokes take ten minutes or something. Yow! can't work like that!

Congrats on IFX!Cool textures! Is that Artrage? You know I finally went and bought it about a month ago and still have not used it yet...Cheers mate!

BillCorbett In reply to Symetarygates [2009-11-09 10:08:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Sean, I got three Q&A slots over three months so I can't complain I did this one in paintshop pro because I needed to demonstrate custom brushes for the texture. It's a bit tricky doing it with the custom stencils in artrage. You've got to use it Sean it's just so much more fun than the others
