The costumes of each of the troupes were so amazing. Especially once they started flowing.

Yosakoi! I'm heading to Iwamizawa (near Sapporo) to teach for a year, so hopefully I'll get to see it firsthand! Maybe even... participate? A girl can dream...

Amazing, sharp photograph! Aren't the costumes lovely?

You must do both, if possible. Yosakoi is an amazing experience.

Thanks! Maybe my school board will have a group of teachers doing yosakoi. One can only hope, right?

Definitely.

I'm sure you could find another way to join a group.

If not, go down and enjoy the spectacle just the same. Amazing routines.

That's why I love shooting festivals. Everything is so split second and you're never sure what you have until you get home. It's the shots like these that make me go back for more.

never seen a festival like that here in my country, unfortunely i don't think there are any of that kind

I like the composition and all the colours, but specially her pose, very concentrated.
Very well done!

Luck of the draw, that's for sure.

With folks moving so fast in dances like this, gems like this are always a very welcome surprise.

Thank you!

I'm not a photographer myself, so I can't offer any criticism, but it's a great shot

Sure you can.

Just like with your drawings, you can talk about what works (or doesn't) for you.

Thank you!

reitschule In reply to billsabub [2005-08-30 10:29:24 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...Okay, I'll give it a shot.
I love the girl's pose, it's very natural, which contrasts (not in a bad way) with her sombre expression.
The unfocused background adds a lot, as does the little amount of orange light on her sleeve - makes me curious about what's going on outside of the figure.

I'd like to see the same scene in a higher contrast lighting, but I could imagine that's not the easiest thing to arrange

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

billsabub In reply to reitschule [2005-08-30 10:32:02 +0000 UTC]

See, you can do it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to think it through. I love how you caught on to the lighting on her sleeve. Natural or artificial? Does it really matter? Because you're right. There's so much other stuff going on there.

No luck with the higher contrast lighting. This was on a very cloudy day, in the last hours before sunset in rapidly fading light.
