Description
Sybil Sybil, known as the Fatespeaker and the One-Who-Discerns, is the Empyral of Prophecy. She serves the All-Maker as the Seer of the Maker’s foresight. Sybil is able to follow the branching paths of destiny, seeing all the possibilities and learning from what could be and what could have been.
Sybil is special in the sense that she was not originally an Empyral. She was one of the first mortals; blind at birth, she received the gift of foresight from the All-Maker to make up for her lack of visual sight and to reward her continued faith in the creator-god. Using her gift, she helped found what would become the Known Lands. Upon her apotheosis, Sybil became the Empyral of Prophecy. She is the only individual in mortal history who has ascended into divinity.
Appearance Sybil appears as she did as a mortal: a young maiden, her long white hair woven into a braid that reaches down to the small of her back. Since becoming a Seraph, ash-grey hard keratin growths cover the entirety of where her eyes should be, forming a sort of decorative visor. She is often depicted in pale religious robes bereft of any religious symbols or patterns. Her expression is often a demure smile, mysterious and unknowing.
Personality Sybil speaks in cryptic riddles and veiled comments, her intentions as vague as her messages, although she works for the betterment of mankind. As the only Empyral who was once mortal before her ascension, she understands what motivates humans and what they would decide, allowing her to easily predict the events of what would come.
Worship A small order of mystics are organized in the name of Sybil, all possessing some form of divine foresight. The head of the order is titled the “Oracle,” who is historically a woman. They wander the lands to grant the gift of foresight to all who would listen, to aid those to what may come.
Artifacts One artifact is attributed to Sybil: the Ashen Crown.
The Ashen Crown is a diadem that resembles the ash-grey keratin growths that have formed around Sybil’s blind eyes. The user is blinded for as long as the Crown is worn, robbing them of their sight for the gift of divine foresight. The user will be able to see as the Empyral of Prophecy does, seeing all the possibilities in their future.
