Description Scene from “The danger of confiding one secret to a goat”,  book VII, chapter I, “Notre-Dame de Paris”, Hugo.

We are on a room with a stone balcony of the rich Gothic house of Gondelaurier, opposite the cathedral.
In the foreground we have the little Bérangère de Champchevrier, Esmeralda and her goat Djiali which accidentally writes the captain’s name.
Seated on the stools the are Demoiselle Fleur-de-Lys de Gondelaurier and captain Phœbus de Châteaupers.
Behind them are standing Demoiselles Diane de Christeuil, Amelotte de Montmichel and Colombe de Gaillefontaine.
At bottom, in a rich arm-chair seated Madame Aloise de Gondelaurier.

All the dresses, coifs, and furnishing are taking from French miniature illustrations and portraits of XV century. Here the detail of Esmeralda and Djiali sta.sh/02aj3vpmt2hd

First thing I've noted: Very good job done on the costumes! Chapeau! (Sorry, professional deformation on my side)

And I love the pictures details, it's just grand

It could be official ilustration for that book. You have truly realistic style and you draw soft delicate lineart, which gives the drawing more subtle and natural look. Keep up good work

this is truly beautiful!!

well-thought, touching,... the composition as well as the clothes are purr-fect

every time I read this scene I always think: no... no... no... no... Mister Hugo, you're cruel... (even if I love your books)

Thanks so MUCH   I'm glad that an other NDdP's great fan love my drawing!

yeah, Hugo is cruel, but Esmeralda also is too naive to believe in Phoebus's love, I don't like her character

neither do I XD I always want to shake her and make her realize what's going on... in fact... people generally hate me for this, but my favorite charas in the book are Frollo, Quasi, Gringoire and Clopin...

I'm totally agree with you, at the beginning of the novel she seems to be strong and brave, like a bohemian should be, but at the end became too silly and annoying: ut it's not her fault, all Hugo's female figures are inconsistent, probably he's a little bit mysoginic U_U just a little bit

My favourite character is Claude, I'm in love with him <3 XD

ohhh another Claude lover

I've always had a soft spot for tormented guys... the way he's caught between his feelings and his role/job always makes my heart break...

and yeah, Hugo was sure misogynistic... but I think it was pretty much the same among all writers (except the women, of course,... and still) of his time...

Yes, in my opinion,  If your read the book you can not being fascinated with this strong character: his rampant obsession, his lust - and not love! - his descent into madness, his alchemic work, his thoughts, how he's described, his behavior.
Esmaralda was the final upset which thrust him from the tentative appeasement of his conflicting natures.

Mm not all the XIX century writers are misogynistics, there are lots of strong female characters in literature.
