Thanks for pointing that out. My story take a different tact than this one, where discord seizes power while Celly is young, and before Luna is born. Additionally, I make a differentiation between Alicorns and Pegasus unicorns (pegacorns). Alicorns only become the way they are through some sort of great magical trial. Pegacorns are normal ponies (did you know there is one in the background of lesson zero?) who can both fly and use unicorn magic, albeit less well than pure unicorns an Pegasi (because of the ways the magics sort of interfere in their bodies). However, he are able to combine the magics in ways the other races are unable.

Pegacorns are rare, but not unheard of in this time the fic is set, (a couple a generation) though pegacorn siblings are.

I've always thought of Alicorns as being a completely different species, allbe equine in form, not ponies. Most pony genetic theories state that both wings and an horn are possible, just extremely rare.

It tough writing about celestia in the past, especially in an adventure/epic setting. given what we know about her now... its tough to write about her in a mortal setting. my premise is that Luna and Celestia did not take their current forms until after they became tied to the sun and moon, which occurs either immediately before, or right after their defeat of discord (haven't decided yet)

anyway, the story is ultimately going to be about Celestia finding the original elements of harmony, while battling against the temptations of discord.

Discord, back then was less concerned in wreaking mayhem, just control. Those who resisted suffered, but those who submitted continued to lives in a relatively normal manner (albeit with the occasional crazy random natural disaster, when Discord is in the mood)

however, Discord ability to warp the fabric of reality is limited by the presence of ponies, especially particularly powerful individuals. in order to overcome this, he needs to get them to turn against their natures (discord them, in the brony parlance), his ability to directly act against them is very limited.

That's why Discord didn't just uproot the castle and turn it into muffins and cotton candy in the show, Celestia's presence limited his ability to alter the palace to just his presence, and sneaking into the vault. however ponyville, with its great ponies (the mane 6) away, was easily warped.

It was controlled by the unicorns before Celestia and Luna (per hearths warming eve) until discord wrested control from them.

now, discord could wreak all the chaos he wants, but in order to keep a population to control, he would eventually realize he had to keep a somewhat normal cycle (though, 12 hours of dark one nigh, 5 another, that's all fine) or else everything would die off.

Discord is chaotic, but he is not overly evil... i think his outburst in return of harmony was a little over exuberance from being cooped up all those years, and to remind everypony who he was.
