Hatay Province, or Alexandretta as it is known in Syria, is a Turkish province on the border with Syria which was ceded to the Turks by the French in 1939.
(and for those of you Indiana Jones fans - this is the province that was the final resting place of the Holy Grail in the 1989 movie The Last Crusade)
