Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

Vision – I like the posture and perspective you've given this gorilla. It's like he was in the middle of some lazing around and he just casually looked over his shoulder.

Originality – I don't know whether you drew this off the top of your head or whether you copied a photo. Regardless, it's not the first gorilla picture out there, but that doesn't detract from the impact it creates.

Technique – Great technique, confident strokes and facial/ear details were executed with precision. Proportions achieved successfully and accurately. Also the empty background means more focus is placed on the gorilla itself, which is effective.
For improvement, I would suggest more shading or shadow to show the true darkness of the fur. This is particularly as the wrinkle along his neck sticks out quite apparently with the rest of the fur a light colour. The top section of the arm looks a little flat, and more darkness could maybe bring out the 'meatiness' of his muscles. I would also like more shadow towards the bottom right of the page on his back, assuming the light source is the sun (up high). Some highlights would also maybe put more energy into his eyes.

Impact – For me, this is a nice relaxed portrait. The main focus is on the gorilla's facial features and the viewer is drawn to the intelligence behind that face. Overall, great work e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Oh, I didn't realise it was only a work in progress! Will it end up being a painting or a black and white sketch?

When I saw it with a white background still, I was JUST thinking it could do with some green. Then BAM! You read my mind!

cool you like it. At first I was thinking to paint a voilet/purple forest, but my spouse told me it would be quite dark and closed from the scheme I already used for a chimp painting, so she suggested me this green background.

She has very good advices (but I should not tell her this too frequently
