April 2020 Prompt Challenge

Print / Shot AU. In which Sylv gets a cinnamon roll and is also a cinnamon roll.

"How much did you buy?" Sylvia exclaimed. "It smells like you brought the whole bakery!"
     Jon grinned as he approached the counter with two paper bags full of pastries. To his relief, Sylvia didn't skitter back from his approach. For a trinket, she was pretty bold now that she understood he wasn't planning to hurt or humiliate her.
     "I forgot to ask what was your favorite before I left," he said.
     "I smell cinnamon, so one of your two dozen guesses was right."
     He chunked off the tiniest piece of cinnamon roll he could manage, and it was still big in her hands. She took a generous bite and moaned.
     "I miss this," she said, sinking down to sit. "Choosing what food I want to eat."
     He wasn't sure if it was okay to smile at that or not. "What else do you miss?"
     "I mean, besides the obvious?" Her chewing slowed, then she smiled shyly and shook her head. "No, you're gonna laugh at me."
     "I won't! I promise."
     "It's dumb, but I had plants in my apartment. And I cried when it hit me that they were gonna be tossed out for the next tenant and left to die."
     She sighed and looked up at Jon with a self-deprecating grin.
     "Did you know," she went on, "that property value goes down when the previous tenant is turned into a trinket? Like it's contagious."
     The change of subject made his skin crawl. But at least he could do something about plants for her.
