For Disney Club's contest "Princess Design Sheet Challenge"

Based on the fairy tale Diamonds and Toads.

Once there was a widow with two daughters.  The eldest was like her mother, cruel and lazy.  The second daughter was kind and sweet and loved by all who knew her, except her mother and sister.  One of the chores she did daily was fetch water from a far off well.  One day, there sat by the well an old beggar woman, who could not draw the water for herself.  When the sweet daughter saw how frail the woman was, she immediately set about seeing to her comfort.  Drawing her some water, and sharing what little food she had brought.  Suddenly, in a flash of light, there stood a bright, shining goddess in the place of the beggar.  She told the girl that she would be rewarded for her kindness.  Any time the girl spoke, flowers and precious gems would fall from her lips.

When the girl returned to her mother and explained what had happened, her mother greedily sent her eldest to the well, telling her to help any beggar woman she found.  At the well, there was only a regal princess, who asked the lazy girl for assistance getting some water.  She refused to help and, as before, there was a flash of light, and same goddess stood before her.  For her cruelty, she would be punished.  Instead of precious things like her sister, all sorts of crawling things would fall from her lips as she spoke.  When her mother saw this, she turned to her second daughter in a rage, and spitefully cast her out.  In her wanderings she met a prince, and they fell in love and married.

Some notes.

~The original tale is French, from Charles Perrault.  I decided to give it an Eastern twist.

~In the original tale, the woman at the well is a fairy, but here I've used a goddess.

~There are three different flowers I've depicted - Lotus, Jasmine, and Marigold.  All very popular flowers in India.
~The Lotus is in her hair in the full body and profile image, also in her hands in the 3/4 image.

~The Jasmine is the other flowers in the profile image.

~The Marigold is the least noticeable, but it is the design in her clothes.

she's pretty; I like her bordered outfit. ^_^
Hmm, it's kind'a like the prologue for Beauty and the Beast, only backwards. The Prince refused to help the old beggar woman, but here, the girl was going to help any old beggar women and refused a princess.
So... did the mother cast out the jewels and flowers daughter? I'd think she'd keep her around and collect the jewels. Unless it was the crawling things daughter, but then the ending wouldn't make sense (unless the girl redeemed herself later).

Yeah, She throws out the jewel daughter.  Jealousy is a doozy of a drug, ain't nobody gonna do the rational thing when they've got bit by spitefulness.

I did read a fun interpretation of the story once, where the bug daughter took advantage of her situation by basically blackmailing the townspeople with her silence.  They would give her free stuff in order to make sure she didn't start talking and infesting their businesses with pests.

That sounds like a good idea, about keeping her mouth shut in exchange for free stuff. (though, it'd be so annoying not to be able to say anything. But it'd be fun to get revenge on people she doesn't like, too.)

Yeah.  Well, she also found a way to deal with the bugs she did end up with, so she didn't have to be silent all the time.  She started a race track business.  She raced the pests against each other.  Made money off of people coming to see and bet on the races.  She was pretty well set up, ultimately.  It was a very weird retelling of the story.

I think her wanderings would be most fun to imagine with such a gift. To keep quiet or speak out flowers and gems.  She shall have to be clever and kind princess for this adventure!
