“It’s all my fault,” he struggled to say, clutching my hands again. “Our connection is gone because of me, and you…you tried to warn me of this, but I…” he broke off, shaking his head mournfully. “Oh, Zelda, I’ve caused you such pain…” he whispered shakily, reaching up to take my face in his hands. “…I would take it all away if I could…”

“Link…” I breathed in disbelief, feeling my heart ache at the grief so clearly etched into his tired face. “Darling, no…”

I trailed off, slipping off his lap to sit against the wall beside him.

“Zelda, I-” Link began somewhat hoarsely.

“Shh,” I gently shushed him. “Come here.”

He silently obeyed, moving closer as I took him into my arms. I gently placed his head against my shoulder, holding him close as he wrapped his arms around me and buried his face against the crook of my neck.

“I’m so sorry, Zelda,” he grieved in a hushed, trembling voice. “…I’m so sorry for everything…”
