Description A quickie render of a robot cat i've been working on last week. Cinema 4d + GSG lightkit. I've probably went a bit overboard on the ao, reduced that in the second render.

very nice
are you going to texturize it?

Yes, as soon as I figure out how I want to set it up. I made this as an IK experiment to see if I can get the movement I want with C4D joints on hard surface, but I didn't give much thought of how I really want it to look. I'm thinking about rusty steampunk look, but I'm not sure yet.

rusty steampunk would be cool, not gonna lie. Like a feral tom cat from the future lol

yeah i was thinking about a clueless stray, but not future, more like alternative reality in the past ^.^

ohright, yea not the future lol
agreed
Where did you get inspiration for this? like I've been wanting to do speakpunk stuff but it requires a lot of small details (like gears, pipes, cogs, etc.) and I just dont know where to start

I've started with setting up the cylinders and tubes (all parametric at the start) set to where I want the joints to be, and scale them accordingly, so I wouldn't get like skinny legs or something (that's real easy to do when making robots, for me, anyway). I've actually used a cat skeleton reference for this. I know it's a mecha, but actually all the joints are where they should be (according to that diagram anyway). After that I've set up the joint system and IK for the legs, just to make sure everything is working right. You know that joint system works really great with normal "soft" models, but for robots it can get tricky because you need to restrict joint movements and IK just doesn't let you do that. So after I was done with all constraints and up vectors and all that, I started building in the actual geometry, but having that 'skeleton' to work off really helps.
