----------------------------------
|Open yourself to me|
The chilling air loomed along with dense fog that engulfed the surrounding areas of the Dackle herd on this late summer’s evening. The herd was weary from the day and its long hours spent in the grueling heat and inescapable rays of sunlight. They altogether drew in for the night ahead and began to fall into deep and secure slumbers, for their day was finally over. All was quiet for the most part, the atmosphere was peaceful and serene. Though faint sounds of crickets would vaguely rupture the silence. All were slumbering now.
Pain however was still up and stirring, she was unfortunately troubled with the dreadful memories of her past. She sought comfort in the silence as she sauntered deep into the foggy woods to escape the watchful eyes of her herd-mates, they always seemed to watch her closely, which made her uncomfortable at times, somewhat like a child that had to be watched over to make sure she wasn’t meddling into things she shouldn’t, though G-Money for some reason never made her feel this way.

“Mind if I join you?” Asked a familiar husky voice that sounded very low in tone.

Pain looked over her shoulder as she continued to walk deeper into the woods. “Oh G, it’s you! No, of course not, come right along.” She said invitingly as she tried to hide the depression in her voice by raising her tone slightly higher and sounding more chipper. He could see past her façade.

The two walked quietly together, side by side they sauntered along the dampened grass from the evening’s mist, it clung to their legs leaving darkened wet patches. Pain was slightly ahead of him, so he followed closely next to her. She took him deeper and deeper until everything from the outside world known as the Dackle herd’s territory couldn’t be heard nor seen anymore. All sounds fell faint until they were no more and all that now could be heard were the new sounds from this new and desolate area. Despite the unfamiliarity, it too had a very calming effect on them.

“Pain listen, what’s wrong? I can tell you’re hiding your feelings about something tonight, so don’t play coy with me, I know you far greater than anyone else does.” He said, slightly disapprovingly as he stopped alongside her, both facing the same direction and standing close to one another.
She looked to him with a pleasant smile. “It’s not that big of a deal, really, I just have been thinking about my past for awhile now and it is a little troubling to me, but like I said, no big deal.” She tried to seem stronger than what her actual emotions were allowing her.
He frowned heavily and looked towards her. “I would like for you to open up to me about your past, I’m not trying to pry or tell you that you should, I just want you to know that no matter what I am always here for you.” He encouraged thoughtfully as his eyes softened.

She smiled to him appreciatively and silently gazed into the distance of the quiet forest. Darkness and fog rendered her vision futile as she peered onward. She sighed to herself with uncertainty as she thought about her choice in telling him or not, for she had never told he nor anyone else of her time before him and the Dackle herd.

He waited for a few moments patiently. “Are you ready?” He asked considerately with a low sounding voice that was just above a whisper. His raspy voice only made her even more comfortable with the situation, as he seemed reassuring to her with it.

She nod her head once and began telling him of her past, this pained her greatly to express to him but no one other than herself has known about it, and for her to open up to him was the best thing she could have ever asked for. She has always longed for someone to listen to her, but never quite felt close enough to anyone to do so, as she felt it would trouble and burden those she cares about.

“When I was born I remember my mother treating me so very kindly for those first few weeks of my life, she was very watchful over me and didn’t leave my side for a second. My father on the other hand seemed to resent me at first, at times completely ignoring the fact that I was near him. He would often sneer at me and snap his teeth at my withers if I got too close to him. My mother seemed to shield me from him all the time, probably fearing he would hurt me. I remember distinctly that the other horses in our family herd also seeming to dislike me for some reason, I still never understood why, though.” She looked over towards him for a moment as she spoke but then looked away to gather her thoughts. “But after about a month after that things seemed to settle down and become more like a family fitted atmosphere, as we did have some good times together. But no matter what I always stayed close to my mother and our bond grew inseparable, I never left her sight. Back then as you know I had Emo for my friend, so we did hangout a lot together, but after he left things seemed to get worse, my mother and father started fussing more frequently, my father’s temper started flaring horribly and the herd seem to constantly be in great dismay. On one early spring morning I recollect being with my mother grazing in a large field that was setting atop a hill that overlooked the rapids below. The sun was shining brightly and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, the air was so crisp and fresh, too. All of the other horses weren’t too far apart from us either, they too were enjoying grazing that morning.” She took a moment to breath.
He looked to her with soft eyes. “Then what else happened?” He asked gently, speaking slowly to her.
“Well I also recall while we continued to graze out there my father standing several hundred yards away just staring at me and my mother only, which I never understood. His face was flat and I couldn’t really read his posture, though his head was deviously low and his eyes seemed cold as always. It was as if he was plotting something against us. Later on that afternoon I was by myself playing in the tall grass as I always did when I was then met by my father who greeted me with a rough nip to the muzzle as I smiled up to him. I trot a few feet away from him and he just sneered at me with those cold yellow eyes which I hated so much. He looked around as if glassing the area, I am supposing for the herd, or maybe my mother, and then he simply turned away from me and faded from my sight. I laid myself down in the grass after that and waited for my mother to come get me like she always did, except, this time she never came. I got up and went looking for her, then next thing I know I hear a pounding sound of thundering hooves, to my expectance it was our herd dashing frenetically in my direction, their eyes were wide with terror. I couldn’t see my mother amongst the panic stricken horses as they stampeded closer to me. I began galloping away from the herd in hopes they would merge with me once they got close enough like they always did, but when they finally reached me I was nearly trampled into the frantic mess.” She paused for a moment to look into his eyes, hoping she wasn’t being a bore to him.
“Don’t stop, go ahead. I’m listening.” He reassured to her as he nuzzled her neck softly.
She closed her eyes for a brief moment. “Once inside the herd of frightened horses I found myself completely locked there with no place nor gaps in between the other horses to escape from. I was forced to run as fast as I could alongside them. I screamed for them to stop or at least explain why they were all running, but they completely disregarded me. The next thing I knew I saw my mother tear into the mass of colliding horses, she came next to me and told me she was about to shove me out to safety, I begged her not leave me, but she didn’t listen. She used her body to press the other horses out of her way long enough to shove me with her head and neck out of the crazed mass. I was torn from the herd and landed in the dirt with a thud, it winded me for a moment but then I watched in horror as I realized what was about to take place. When my eyes met the direction upon which they were heading, I then realized they were going to plummet off the cliff’s edge and die. I screamed for my mother, but it was too late. I watched helplessly as my mother and several of the other horses met their demise off the cliff. The other horses who managed to stop in time before the cliff merely trot off like it didn’t even matter to them that they witnessed their own comrades die.” Tears started to form around her golden yellow eyes as she delved deeper into her painful memories.

The russet bay simply drew his body closer to the small filly who seemed dwarfed by his tall stature. He wanted so very badly to comfort her better, but didn’t know the words to say, all he could do was listen and provide kind eyes to console her feelings.

“I rushed as fast as I could to the edge of the cliff to peer over hoping my mother was alright, but was horrified by what I saw instead. Not only was my mother covered in horrific bloody wounds and lifeless, but so was half the herd that also fell victim to their cruel fate. They were all being swept away with the currents from the rapids. Blood filled the water, it was a gruesome sight to see, G.” She whimpered lightly. “So I raced down the cliff side, trying to beat the currents in time to make it to my mother so I could save her. My tiny foal legs almost didn’t make it, but I managed to make it down just close enough to watch as my mother’s limp body was washed away. Never in my life have I felt so much pain.” She began crying into G-Money’s muscled shoulder.
“I’m here, babe, I’m here.” He said, but then blushed heavily at his comment, he had never called her that before and was in hopes she didn’t catch onto it.
“Oh G, I saw her being swept away!” She sobbed heavily with a very saddened tone. “My mom, G…”
“It’s alright, just try to finish your story so you won’t have to think about it anymore after that.” He encouraged as he gently nudged her shoulder.
She dried her tears on her inner leg as she bent her head to her knees. “After that I remember my father was standing right behind me as he watched me see my own mother drift away and blood trailing after her. He startled me when he shouted my name, I turned to look at him and asked why he didn’t stop them or save my mother, he replied that he was the one caused it and this was exactly what he wanted. He told me he was the one who started the stampede and that he was going to kill me as well. I remember taking off running past him while he just stood back and seemed to wait, like a cruel game of chase. I looked back and couldn’t see him anymore but I kept running as far away as I could, though I followed around the loop of the water, even though I knew it broke in two places and I was heading in the direction of the one that my mother’s body wouldn’t have traveled down. I was still unfamiliar with our own land, so I didn’t know I was going the wrong way, though I kept galloping until the water stopped and turned into a waterfall that overlooked the lake below. It was hundreds of feet from where I was standing looking over that I would drop from, no one would have survived it, or so I thought. I remember peering over looking for my mother, but was quickly shaken when I heard my father’s cruel voice come from behind me. Just as I turned my head around to look at him, he snapped his jaws just inches from my muzzle, I shrieked back and nearly lost my footing. Rocks started becoming loose from under my tiny hooves as they trembled with fear of just his presence alone. I remember looking up into his horrifyingly grim eyes and only seeing my reflection in them, he grinned deviously down to me and said “One down, one to go…Now you’re in my game, care to make the first move, dear?” then I remember leaping over the cliff where I landed in the lake that you stood drinking from. I remember how the sharp rocks cut into me under the water, and how bad it hurt, but nothing hurt worse than losing my mother to him and his cruel game. I wasn’t going to allow myself to be murdered by his hooves, I was going to be the one to take my own life that moment, which is why I chose to leap. I felt the cold water penetrating my lungs and filling them with fluid, then after that everything goes blank in my mind. The next thing I actually recall is waking up for the first time to your deep red eyes that looked concerned over me.” She smiled as she looked to him.

G-Money just stood there for a moment trying to grasp all of what she told him, he was in complete awe that she managed to put on a happy face each and every single day and act like nothing is wrong with her, even though she has had to remember all of those terrible memories each moment of her life, and to have done it all alone. It pained even him for a moment to think about, he never knew what great torture she actually had to endure, he merely knew the minimal gist of the actual story. He felt so very sorry for his dear friend in that moment.

“Pain, I had no idea you had to see so much, that’s terrible. You basically lost your mother and your father all in the same day, huh? But, why did Death do that?” He questioned, slightly baffled by the whole situation.
She shook her head. “I don’t know, I wish I did, all I do know is one day he must pay for what he’s done to me and my mother. I know revenge isn’t a good thing, but I am not necessarily talking about revenge, he just must own up to his wrongs and confess why he did what he did to us. But even then, it still doesn’t bring back my mother.” She closed her eyes for a moment.

Just then the white filly jumped as if she heard something in the distance. Her body bumped roughly into the bay’s shoulder. He flinched and looked to her with apprehension, ears falling back.

“What’s wrong?” He asked concernedly, his face now sporting a frown.
“I know it’s just me, but…I felt like he…was near. A sudden wave of sheer terror just washed over me, as if I felt the most acute sense of desperation just now. I would say I’m a little scared, but I don’t want to sound like a child.” She shivered slightly. “I think I would like to leave this place now, I feel uncomfortable, like we’re being watched.” Her voice was shaky sounding, and seemed to become frail in tone.

G-Money moved his body intimately close to her and placed his large neck over hers, his mane draped over hers overlapping the two together. He felt her body trembling under his neck, she was still afraid of what she thought was there. He knew he had to get her mind off her fears in that moment. He gently pulled away and began nuzzling her withers, tickling them slightly with his rough lips. She giggled for a moment but fell silent once more. As he continued to groom along her he started moving down to her shoulder and then slowly up to her back where he slowly ran his warm tongue along it.

“Ah, G…” She said slowly as she closed her eyes, a gentle smile drew on her muzzle.

He too closed his eyes as he traced along her short back with his muzzle, breathing slowly and being very gentle, he didn’t know why he was doing this, nor why she was allowing him to be so intimate with her, but he reluctantly pulled away when a yellow illuminated glow from off in the distance caught his eye, an instant crimson filled his eyes.

“Perhaps it best we be on our way after all…” He suggested as he roughly pushed at her shoulder, seeming rather dominantly over her. His ears flat back.

She merely started walking in the direction upon which he was guiding her. Wondering what caused his sudden sternness. Though she felt relieved she had finally told him of her past. She felt like an enormous burden was lifted from her heart…

-Thank you! ^^
-----------------------------------
Well, I've had this idea in my head for a long time now, so I finally got to work on it several days ago. I had a lot of fun working on it, though. Was having a tough time thinking of a background, so I made it sorta late evening, it was fun. I wanted to give them a surreal feeling compared to the background, so I gave both they and the trees a "foggy" effect. I liked playing around with something new like that. xD ^^

It seems like a little while since I've drawn anything, so it was nice to get back into the swing of things.

Anyway, the story was like ten miles long, but I enjoyed writing it.

Thanks for reading!

I love G and Pain. Cutest little horse couple I think I've ever seen.
He's so nice and caring and brave. He wants to protect her and the look on his face shows that.
Pain looks shy and nervous, but she also has a look of pure love in her eyes when she looks at G.
Glowing eyes in the background.... o.o Eeevil... xD

Gorgeous picture! The mist really does add a sense of surreal to it all, and the story is very sad and heartbreaking. Their expressions are really some of your best yet I think. G looks so tender and concerned, while Pain appears to have a very rare expression of true and proper happiness. You can tell she really feels safe with him. And the ominous figure of....well, we can only guess , is a really awesome touch! The glow of his eyes are very haunting.

The pictures itself is so sweet, yet mysterious. Pain and G look so cute, but you can see the lingering figure behind which gives a real sense of fear and mystery.
The story was beautiful, and sad. The bond between G and Pain is shown so vividly c:
