I think I know what's going to happen next considering the spike pits. Poor freddy I never knew ye! *plays funeral march* Which is true I never play the games or even got them but I know enough of the lore it doesn't matter. Something tells me this thing requires a very good sense of timing to even get past safely.

Spelunky is a very hard game. Not only you need good timing, but the time you can spend on the level is limited, so you have to move quickly. I usually try to avoid places with spikes like this. And when I have no bombs to blow my way to the exit and no time to pass spikes and pits safely, I just run, jump and if I manage to get past them I'm like: "Hey, I'm still alive! What a surprise!" XD
