"Sora and Kairi are not a good couple. For starters remember what Riku said in Kingdom Hearts 1 about the Paopu fruit:

Sora and Kairi didn't do that in Kingdom Hearts 3. They didn't share one fruit and additionally, they didn't even eat at all. But besides this, Nomura has failed to show that these two characters have chemistry. He's just forcing them together for the sake of forcing them like Naruto and Hinata from the Naruto anime franchise. This is exemplified by the fact that Sora forgot about when he rescued Kairi by choosing to become a Heartless and releasing her heart as shown in the cutscenes for Kingdom Hearts 2 when the characters were discussing how Sora created his Nobody. How much can she truly mean to him when such an important event is forgotten? Not only this but Kairi is a liability to Sora. The only reason that Sora had to sacrifice himself in KH1 was because Kairi's heart latched on to him, hiding inside him as if she were a parasite. Adding a great amount of weight to when she says in KH2 that "Sora's in danger because of me." This is further emphasized with Namine who not only was created because Kairi's heart hid in Sora, but also was utilized in COM to mess with his memories and in essence damage his mind. While it's true that Sora may screw up at times, in terms of Kairi she is the reason for several of the problems which drag him down.

Why does Sora like Kairi? What does he see in her? Because truth be told Kairi is not attractive. Physically she's nearly featureless with exceedingly small breasts, no ass, no hips and just in case NO, Off Model fanart doesn't count. Her personality is that of a bland love interest and that's it. Why does Kairi like Sora? We don't understand a thing about her preferences. And this isn't a matter that can be solved by having characters spend time together, I've seen chemistry between characters who spend little time on screen together. The problem is that Sora and Kairi just do NOT work.

We can't get rid of Sora given he's the series protagonist. However, Nomura really screwed up in Kingdom Hearts 3 where he kills off Kairi and then through his talent known as Bad Writing he revives her. Keeping her dead would have been a good thing because the Sora/Kairi relationship is one of the flaws in this franchise. No one actually cares about it. If Sora and Kairi's relationship was an actual meaningful element of this franchise then why is there so much gay/yaoi crap? It's because you got many people who aren't impressed by this part of Kingdom Hearts.

To conclude Sora and Kairi are NOT a good couple. Their romance is an unfunny joke that keeps showing up at times to merely remind the audience that this is a thing and it's a thing without any substance. The series would be better without this romance crap as Sora works better single and Kairi is a character that should have been dropped many years ago. Anyway, that's my take on this element from Kingdom Hearts if it resonates with you? Great. If not? Different strokes for different folks. Good day."
