HERE YA GO!!!!
Did an apple again~ N for those of you who wanna see, this is my last apple: [link]
Perhaps, just perhaps i shall start daily digital doodling again.
And as you can see, i have a new style
Just applying a bit of knowledge i've learned down at conceptart.org ~haven't digitally painted ever since i stopped those doodles, except for some rendered balls (value practice purpose)
So even lurking around there makes you wiser it seams
I've used 's Red Apple : [link] as a reference, and i admit, i have eyedropped a few times, because i wanted to rush this.

You've got some lovely rich colour here! You really do have a wonderful sense of lighting things.

Well i'm quite tired too right now, and i'm going to bed so we're on the same vibe
There were A LOT of colours used in the process @.@ and i shall upload a step-by-step on this soon!

The lighting ideas just come from studying the values first and from my traditional art studies.
Try grayscaling a reference that you want to use the lighting effect to really break it down. Once you go back to colours, that "pattern" shall already bin glued to your mind

I have a theory that in some cases just practising is not the only way to improve! Back when I first started drawing and colouring, I saw huge leaps of improvement every piece I made even if I drew nothing in between, from observing techniques from other artists and applying them. And also I think it's in learning to "see" things better. xD
Comparing this apple to your previous one, I see a lot more colours and contrast/depth. And also the harder brush strokes and varying brush sizes really give it dimension. =3
And okay I promise I'll draw an apple some time! xD

and thank you!~ i do love adding all those colours now, even though before i wasn't such a fan, now i've done some eye-dropping exercises and my eyes see faster the tone, thus making me more comfortable when looking at the ref, and painting it

I'd love to see more digital from you, especially to compare with your previous doodles. I see you've improved with technique (you're not afraid of stronger values and sharp edges). By the way: is it 100% hard round brush as suggested by (almost) everyone on CA?

And i am planning to restart daily doodleing, and redoing my fruits
Perhaps, even in that order..who knows?!
And i wasn't really afraid of sharp edges, i just didn't know where to put them
