(Made: A while ago. Remade: 11/26/17 Finished and posted: 12/3/17)Dragon Rider Tip #21: Keep your dragon properly hygenic and clean. Remember to brush, wash, and perform dental care on them at least once or twice a week. Your dragon may find it annoying and time-consuming, but they will thank you for it when they don't get fleas/mites or cavities. BD had to learn the hard way when I had to pay a professional to take care of rotten teeth she let get too cavity-damaged. She still rolls her eyes and grumbles during teeth brushing, but doesn't pull the bucket out from under me anymore. Most of the time...
(WARNING: Do NOT mix up soap with toothpaste. Your dragon will not forgive you for that, as they have a rather sensetive sense of taste and will not get rid of that taste for a while.)

I got the idea for this one looking at another Dragon Rider/dragon duo picture with a similar pose and theme. I thought it was a pretty fitting scenario, since I happen to be rather grudging sometimes when it comes to brushing my teeth. I shouldn't be...I just get bored (which sounds so stupid when I type it up). So I tend to watch a YouTube video or listen to something while doing the brushing. It helps.
So this is an illustration of a common occurance with Goopster and BD when it comes to grooming her. She can't do it herself, so he's tasked with doing that in return for her continued loyalty and companionship. It's just one of those tasks a rider must do, and I will try to get up more pictures with "Tips" from Goopster as a guide for how the general setting of the "UT Dragon Riders" AU project works. Again, this is a community project, and ideas and thoughts from others interested in being apart of it are welcome. I'm not doing this all by myself, and your input is much appreciated.
For now though, this is a first draft look at a rest point for your Rider and their dragon. Not all villages have them, but most do have a stable for the dragon to rest in. This is the more common lodging for the dragon while their rider rests in the inn next door (you have to stay near your dragon if something were to happen). There are exceptions, such as if your dragon is small enough to fit inside and won't cause trouble, or if they can change their size or shape with magic (like BD can).
Also in the stablegrounds is a large courtyard-like space for grooming. If you don't have your own tools, they have some provided, which goes into the pay for renting out a space for the night. The ground is dirt, making it a soft place for your dragon to lie down (not all have fluffy fur) and a softer landing if your dragon knocks you off your makeshift footstool... BDS has done this in the past. She can be a bit bratty and michevious with her friends, but she means well...
Oh, and if I do keep the bead bracelet on her tail, she took it off because getting it wet would be a pain.

And this gives me an idea for the beads: gifts. Perhaps gifts are a way of helping form a bond between dragon and rider, and even a show of respect?

That would make sense... In dragon culture it could be a well-known symbol of mutual respect to gift their partner matching clothing of some kind (I think jewelry is counted as clothing). Perhaps enchanted by the dragon to seal the bond. I had thought of having Goopster wear an identical one around his wrist, so this would be a good reason.

That sounds good. It would also help any dragons or riders who have partners that tend to wander or those looking for their partner who aren’t good at describing things a way of quickly finding them it the items are unique to each pair in some way.
Kinda tempted to make a dragon/rider pair myself now.

And a way of identifying the dragon as the partner of that Rider. Wild dragons are a thing in this world, and the bonded ones don't always wear their saddles and do go off to hunt and things.

Yeah. Just something that shows their bond of friendship. Be it a bandana, a gauntlet, a glove, a scarf. Just something they can wear that won't come off easily. Even an earring if they have ears.

I’m just gonna make two new characters. Unless you want to make the rider. I have an idea for the sort of species this dragon is, kinda like a chameleon or other color-changing creature. I’ll name it Mimicwing, for their ability to reflect or even mimic colors and patterns on their large, mirror-like scaled wings.

Well, the AU is to be you or your OC and your favorite Undertale character. But if you'd rather have two OCs, that's fine too if you don't feel like using an Undertale character.

Well.... I wouldn’t work with most of my favorite Undertale characters.... except maybe Alphys. But I was thinking that my pair works with her in some capacity, like fetches things for her or does deliveries on her behalf.

They're pretty common. Most are NPC-type people that run the shops and inns. But there are some Monsters that do too. Like the resident Grillby (who may or may not be a Nurse Joy situation case of having multiple identical siblings of the same name that run each pub, which are a hotspot for riders to meet one another and have a higher chance meeting a different version of themself).
The setting I picture is similar to an RPG game setting. Not to a T. But a lot of features being similar. As well as the scenery.

That makes sense, and maybe it's the sort of AU that can act as a cross-roads between other AUs? That could explain how there could be multiple Grillbys, and maybe even multiple Sanses. Also, might make Sans my dragon's rider. A comical, prank and joke loving version of him. XD

Well that's the thing too. I'm keeping it open to people having the same Favorite or chosen Undertale character as another. Natalia also has a Gaster, and if I made slots to fill, it defeats the purpose of a 'all inclusive community run AU'.
Plus the question of where the dragons come in if it's where any AU can come in.
Unless...you could be onto something here with the AU crossroads thing. What about...this huge world is actually multiple worlds crossing and coexisting on the same plane. The same AU, but different versions of it. In some, there are dragons that are dragon versions of the Monsters. In othes, it's the Monsters but from a different version of the AU.
So each area you explore (like in an RPG) is just another version of the sans AU. Like say you enter the Underfell version, it's the same but everyone looks different and the colors are darker. And it would be called a region.
Same with any other. The only odd thing, while the Monsters can have multiple counterparts (Underfell or dragon Underfell for examples, none of the OC/so a characters do... Which gives the AU some subtle meta vibes.
And this is what Goopster is researching. How this happened and what's causing it. Then if it will cause disorder and harm to all their 'regions' combine. But he keeps this from everyone unless he can really trust them...so he's the only one that's figured out what is going on right now (since I started the AU...).
Sorry, that was all just thinking out loud but that seems the most logical reason for all of it.

That works. I could see Goopster putting requests for people to gather things from different regions too, like quests of sorts. Tinker would certainly be giving out quests if he was encountered.

Well, Goopster is actually a main character type since I play as him. He isn't an NPC. So he and BDS do their own adventuring for hands-on field work experience. He just isn't big on combat.
The goal here for him, is to keep this research to himself and his dragon. Doing everything on their own. Which is a flaw of his, but he'll learn to rely on friends too...if he ever makes any. He's rather socially awkward.

Probably. If they can hold a conversation, which on Goopster's end isn't easy if he barely knows someone. So it would depend on of they shared interests.

Well, Tinker researches Soul Development and magic (Lani is his main research topic since she's the only developing human soul he knows of.) and their effects on developing souls. Something like this world being a cross-roads of AUs would get his interest, especially if it affected his charge in some way. Don't know if he'd have a dragon or if Lani would. Although I could just picture Lani holding a cute little baby dragon or something. And Tinker..... Wouldn't be able to tell her 'No'. XD

I think Goopster would be comfortable talking about Soul Development. Just don’t bring up the ‘multiple versions of everyone, and identical regions with small changes’ thing and he can discuss that topic for a good long while. He’d even bring out his notebook to record it all if it was ok to do so. He’s just curious though. There’s no barrier situation.
XD I could also see that being a thing. The Lani holding a baby dragon. lol I don’t really think dragons are mother bear types either. So even if the Mom was nearby she wouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Probably curious. But with Monsters and humans living casually together for the most part (there is some racial differences, but it’s unavoidable for there to be SOME racists on both ends), it isn’t uncommon for humans to live with Monsters. Whether adopted or because the Monster married a human with kids.
Hybrids are also not uncommon. Not all over the place, but there are more than only a few.
So he wouldn’t think too much of it. It’s not his business what the situation is and why she calls Tinker ‘uncle’. Curious as he is, he at learned to not pry into family affairs.

Daw. lol He probably wouldn’t know what to do about it. Wants to be polite...but at the same time not sure if he has to reciprocate. BDS is less clueless and would just tell him to keep whatever Lani gives him. Kids don’t care as long as you accept it.

Well, in Lani’s case those gifts would involve treats and such. She’d Probably give gifts to BDS too. And Lani wouldn’t care so much about reciprocation as she would with making sure that the gift was to their liking.

It’s most likely going to be food. XD debating on how Lani’s story might change without a barrier. Maybe Frisk died during child birth or something. And Abyss.... is not possessed, but he IS very, very shy. Like hide-in-another-room sort of shy.
