Description As you all may know, I am now living in Japan and have been here for almost three weeks. I have taken many pictures so far, but this is the first I like well enough to post on DA... This is a photo of the Great Buddha of Kamakura (Kamakura Daibutsu) which stands on the grounds of Kotokuin Temple. With a height of 13.35 meters, it is the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan. The tallest is located in Nara's Todaiji Temple. [link]

just came about to read your comment on it!! you live in Japan?? that is soooo amazing! I am actually always looking for places to go to and stay for longer. I am only 17 yet, but I changed my place already 2 - once only in italy for 3 months at a working placement, so i did not go abroad for that, but since a year i am living in ireland, which is quiet different. but i still want to find the total different place to go and experience something totally different. do you speak japanese? and why did you go there? and how long do you intend to stay there? oh god i want to know everything

Yeah, I just got stationed out here with the US Navy's 7th Fleet band, "Orient Express." I am the lead vocalist. I use to be stationed in Memphis TN (USA) with my friend Patrick Pedlar (Trumpet Player) About the same time as I moved to Japan, he moved to Italy. (So far, I have only done one show out here. Here it is if you are interested... [link] Like I said, I am the singer, but I don't start singing until the middle of the video... )

I speak a little Japanese, just enough to get bye... Still have a lot to learn though...
I hope you get a chance to come out there some time! You will love it!

that is soo cool! absolutely amazing, i really envy you!! it must be so inspiring to live there!! how is the rent and living there? would you say it is more expensive than to your homeplace?

Well, it really all depends on the exchange rate... Right now, the US is is recession, so the value of the yen is a bit more then the dollar, so everything is a little more expensive out here. But if the dollar and the yen were equal, yes, things are pretty cheep. The Navy pays for everything out here (Rent, Food, Transportation.) So I haven't really had to worry about any of that... But apartment prices are not bad! You can get a decent sized, two bedroom apartment for about 130,000 Yen a month. (1,131 Euro) And everything is negotiable! Also, public transportation is REALLY GOOD out here!! I didn't even need to get a car!

Yup! I am in the military. (Although, technically I am a sailor... )
I live on Yokosuka Naval base.
