I had also done a "Woody Generations" of sorts, it's in the Gallery somewhere, and it had been made for his anniversary year last year.
Great job on this!

I still Haven't seen the 50s Woody Woodpecker. But from his style of drawing he ever looked the niecest. Not like the 40s one which looks like a sociopath. Not that I dislike the 40s woody but come on, just 10 years made him so different in his looks! I found that more amazing.
But New woody actually looks more like the very old woody from the 40s.
But maybe he would finaly recognize him as himself. I mean just let's take our imagination he would be a living. Than we could go away from the idea that those are simple two woodys and more to, old woody things "Man! Back there I had some Hair Style!" or something you know like people that change.^^
Or if we go the other way with two different woody like I said thank good it is not the 40s woody because I think that would be fucking brutal.^^
Just my opinion.

I've only seen the ones from the 40's on my top 600 cartoon classics but I really want to see the one from the 50's is there do you know if there's any volumes of the show on disk for sell anywhere?
Oh by the way hilarious picture I wonder if for some reason they'd get along well as roommates?Β

Ah, okay, I see. For some reason I prefer "Modern" Woody, or Woody-with-hair-going completely back, to "Silver Age" Woody, or Woody-with-pompadour.
When his hair goes back, it differentiates him from Winnie and the other girls...maybe that's one reason. Can't put my finger on any other.

same with me. I kinda wonder that maybe, all three versions of Woody Woodpecker have different personalities.
For example, the personality of the earliest version of Woody (in 1940) was that he is very crazy, insane, and is pretty much abusive towards his foes. When I see through the 1940 Woody, I feel like I'm afraid of him, possibly due to his grotesque appearance.
Now the personality of the Woody we know today (his appearance is the same in mid-1940s) was that he is now lazy, a bit rude, still insane and is still aggressive towards his foes. Although he can be a bit nicer in some episodes.
And last but not least, Classic Woody's (1951-1972) personality ACTUALLY differs from the other two versions, which may be the reason why you're in love with him in the first place. Since 1951 when the animators did Woody's redesign, his craziness and abusiveness towards his foes have been toned down by the animators and directors and made him a somewhat serious, defensive, straight man who is actually trying to do good, but still keeps a bit of his craziness. Also, he is very caring towards those who are antagonized by foes, and is pretty much smart and not lazy all the time. He may like to do crazy things and make other people nuts, but deep down, he wouldn't dare to use it to hurt others (except for his foes though). And it's pretty much why I like Classic Woody better than the other two Woodys

in my opinion, Classic Woody who is sweet and acts like a fatherly figure is NOT a total wuss. He's in my terms, a great example of a classic cartoon hero like Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny since both of them are kind at heart

That is why I am writing to Universal Studios about Woody.
Maybe all these "different" Woody characters you see at different times are NOT the same bird? (There was a comment under a 1940s cartoon that the old Woody with the red belly was "killed off" when he hit that big gas tank and ended up with angel wings in Heaven - to make room for the "new" Woody with a white belly, BTW.)
I think I will STICK to the cute Woody with a sweet side from the "classic" era (he was such a nurturing daddy figure to his nephew and niece, BTW) and don't care about the other "Woody" characters. Ironically, most Woody fans think that Woody (the adorable, fatherly one with thick black eyebrows and red hair that curls

Of course he's the same character! The OG toon stars never forget who they are, nor do they spawn an entirely diferent entity. If Woody did meet his older self, he'd probably facepalm and be like "Oh great. I thought I'd escaped this nancy boy once and for all!"
