Description Even deeper....

Leo stumbled to his feet, his heart hammering in his chest and his nose bleeding. His vision was blurred and he could see the dark shapes moving closer. He backed away and felt the icy concrete against his fingers. He looked around for a way out, but instead a forceful blow to his kidney sent him to his knees. He coughed and vomited on the concrete floor. A hand gapped his shoulder and pulled him to his feet. A pair of hands brushed the dirt of his clothes and clasped his cheek before pulling him close. A raspy voice whispered:
"Let that be a free lesson. Keep away from my friends or the lessons are going to be expensive."
Of course the voice belonged to Alexander. He would always stand up for those smaller than him. He was strong and had a sense of justice. Some called him the beloved son of the streets. He and his gang kept a lookout for the shady persons that were a threat for their friends. The good guy.
Leo called him weak.

Leo heard the footsteps of his assailants growing distant and felt his legs give way under him. He landed on the cold concrete and hammered the back of his head into the wall behind him. His vision blurred and his world degenerated into white fog. Very fibre of his being was wracked with pain and he slowly felt himself slipping away. He heard someone running through an echoing hall and agitated voices screaming and yelling. Short of breath Leo felt himself falling into an abyss. Falling into the darkness.

Leo felt explosions of sound; taste and colours erupt across his senses. An echoing voice was panicking and a rapid beat in the background got louder and louder. Leo felt himself scream in pain and horror. He tried to run, but he was restrained held back, caged. Impossible colours ripped over his eyes, showing his fathers face, defiant and hard, mocking, joking, and testing him. A taste of blood spread in his mouth, spilling over him. He felt his pulse beating in his ears and screeching sounds ripped through his ears. His eyes blinded, ears deafened and body numb, Leo still felt himself falling into a deep and terrible abyss. As he awoke with startle from his hospital bed, Leo had to fight hard against his urge to scream.

Looking up he saw two persons discussing something outside his room. The first one was a young doctor with black hair and clad in light blue scrubs talking to the butler of his family, Gerald. Gerald was a middle-aged redheaded American. He was built like a blacksmith with large over arms, rough fingers and a worn face. He was very formal and did all what he did with every fibre of his being.

But he was still a servant.

Leo tensed and though narrowed eyes he observed the conversation carefully. He could not read lips, but from what he knew about Gerald and how he stared at doctor he could tell he was not satisfied with what the doctor was telling him. Leo smirked. Gerald could be stubborn and protective.
*************
"Dr. Green, Leo will be safe in our care. We have access to excellent physicians and medical staff. Surely it would be better to discharge him and make room for another patient." Gerald spoke with plainly, yet in a dominating way. He could usually intimidate others into listening to him.

"Mister Gerald, Leo is in no state to leave the hospital. He suffered a severe blow to the head and has been slipping in and out of consciousness through the last hours. He could suffer brain damage if he was to be moved." the young doctor spoke calmly and brightly to the older man in front of him, completely unaware that he was trying to intimidate him.

"I want a second opinion,” Gerald demanded.

"Hey Dr. Simon."

A middle-aged man with curly brown hair, and slightly menacing eyes looked up from his patient file and looked up from his file and walked over to the other two.
"Jennifer, what seems to be the problem?"
Dr. Green handed Leos file to Dr. Simon.
"He wants a second opinion on this patient. He wants to take him home."
Dr. Simon looked the file over and paging through the notes on it. He then pushed it back into Dr. Green’s hands and crossed his arms looking at Gerald.
"Listen here old boy" he said with a mock English accent. "What part of Jennifer’s diagnosis do you not understand? He has suffered a severe blow to the back of his head, probably the cause of his blackout. If he is moved his brain probably will overload with information from his senses and suffer another blackout, and thus suffer brain damage. The cap has been extremely lucky so don't kill him yet. What do you say old boy?"

Gerald's face turned stiff and slowly nodded.

"Very good sir. Thank you for the analysis. I trust he will be in good hands here then."

*************

Gerald opened the door to the small room and looked at the youth entrusted to his care. He remembered the happy boy from 12 years ago. He used to run about and go exploring. He often came home with bruises and scrapes, but always happy and holding a treasure from a daring adventure. His life was one big adventure with nothing to care about. He had dozens of toys and his room was a battlefield of stuffed animals, balls of every colour, toy cars and everything else a boy at the age of 5 had. Maybe he was getting old, but Gerald swore he still heard the footsteps of a loud child run though the mansion.

Gerald looked up at what the boy had become. A rail thin 17-year-old with messy blonde hair, green eyes and slightly unhealthy look about him looked back at the old butler. They sat in silence for a few moments before Gerald spoke:

"You will be staying here for the night. It seems that your condition was critical. They are concerned."

"It was just a blackout. It is not like it has not happened before."

"Maybe so but you are still entrusted to my care, Leo, you need to be careful.”

“I suppose my father has decided to intervene?”

“Yes, he has instructed me to take you home and plan your next route.”

“While I am still recovering so I won’t fight back,” Leo replied with a smug grin.

“He wishes only your best Leo,” Gerald replied in a tired voice. “He is your father and you are the only who can take over after him.”

“Well my sister is the one with an IQ of a 185” Leo snapped back.

“You precisely why it is you, and not her, who have to follow you father’s instructions. And even if you did run we would find you again. Accept your fate.”

In a former life Leo might have cried.
