Description “No drawing in bed, please.” You groaned from across the room, lying on the pull-out bed in the couch, with your arm covering your face from the lamplight.

“Mmm?” I had lost track of time ages ago.

“No drawing in… that should be a rule.” Smothering yourself with a pillow, you thrashed your legs under your sheets. -- from Wanderlust

Another quote from my series. From one of my favorite parts by far.

The text gets smaller and smaller because I hear him less and less... that's what getting engrossed in art will do for you.

I'm quite happy with how this came out. The picture is a skyline of my city that I did two years ago.

Steal and die. (c) BlackNailpolishDays 2010

The angle, layout, and visual effects you compiled in this are perfectly coordinated. It looks like it should be an advertisement in a literary journal, or one of those inspirational posters. Beautiful work. How did you capture this angle?

I'd glad you like the layout! I'm interested in graphic arts, and I love to mess with layout design primarily, like on my school's yearbook team. There's so much to be done with text and pictures!

The photo was actually rotated 90 degrees clockwise. The original was a horizonal shot I took with my left hand while posing my right hand.

Thank you!

Really? Huh. Thanks for answering my question. I'll have to try your technique sometime.

Are you planning on going into graphic design as a career, then? You appear to have a flair for this sort of thing that many magazines/journals I know could definitely use.

I would love to go into that field, but I think I'm stuck with studying to become a nurse as per parents wishes. However, I probably will do some graphic design work on the side to make myself feel better-- I hate the idea of medical care, but it is "recession-proof" in nature.

There should be a way to combine the two... try starting a side business doing some of the reference posters on often sees in doctors' examination rooms, or something. If you build up a portfolio while working as a nurse, eventually you'll be able to make it pay somewhat.

I actually considered that, or even pursuing a career as a medical illustrator. There's a graphics company in town that I have connections too, so I might intern there or do some small jobs for them on the side. But that's a great suggestion-- I never thought of reference posters!

Is there a book called Wanderlust? Because these quotes came from something I wrote myself.

True. It's just not fun for the other person in the room who is trying to sleep.
