Description This picture was originally intended to be an illustration of my character Ava, trapped under a piece of furnature - being burnt alive. Only - she wanted to die at the time. But then as I was drawing, the rest of her sordid past kept playing through my mind. Namely - being a victim of human trafficking.

This is a SICK and WARPED operation that goes on EVERY day. And I'm not talking about in the Middle East or Africa - I'm talking about in the US. In YOUR state.

Human trafficking is the FASTEST growing criminal industry in the world. 1.2 million children are trafficked each year and 95% of them experience physical and/or sexual abuse in the process. This DISGUSTS me to an unspeakable level. So instead of drawing a scene from Ava's past, I'd rather draw a weapon to educate anyone who bothers to read this.

The pain and the hopelessness these victims go through is unspeakable - and in the truest sense of the word, they are TRAPPED. Don't be ignorant to the things that are going on around you - go get an education! Learn about what you can do and what to look for!

Hear the call and take action - no matter who you are, you can make a difference and help save these people!

Wow, really really sobering picture. This is something you could enter in a design contest on the subject. theblindproject.com I think it is, had one last year. You should keep your eyes open if you're interested because that there is a winner for sure. Well done.

lol - I've no such aspirations. I'll leave all those epic-type things to you xP But thank you. I wanted it to be a very stark picture, so 'sobering' is a great responce ^^~
Reminds me much of Ecola and our 'Hear the Call' group :/

Well that's too bad, because I'm not kidding when I say that is one of the best illustrations of the intensity, darkness, brokeness, heartache, just the WRONGNESS of this trade that I've seen. What you've done with the bar code and position is just perfect. It has the serious natured shock effect that it needs without being too graphic.

Yes, it does, I noticed that you said "hear the call" in the description. Why does everything remind us of ecola lately? XD

In the beginning I actually had more barcodes covering her up... but then I was like... no, you know what? Just, no. People SHOULD see and be offended. This isn't the sort of thing that should be covered up politely.
Maybe we're just desperate? XD

I remembered watching a mini series about human trafficking when I was younger, but it didn't really resonate with me until I got older, saw more things about it, and became more informed. It really is horrible, and it's nice that you're doing a piece to help spread the word about this despicable 'business'. DX

a mini-series on human trafficking? o_0 That sounds awful to watch >< But the truth of it is, it IS awful. :/ So yeah... besides, Ava would have wanted me to use her past for educational purposes rather than just an illustration XD How could I not?
Thanks for the comment~
