There’s a pressure at the back of her eyes, like a dam trying to break.She wants to let it go.

The mask she’s been under for years.

The familiar stinging sensation in her nose when she begins to cry wakes her every night at 4am, always punctual.
Her heart’s been broken many times.
Now the phrase “no strings attached” is all too literal, as everyone she trusted cut her heart strings, with the scissors she slashes herself with. Only she held the scissors herself.
A simple dream keeps her alive, nuzzling into her significant other’s shirt, grasping for her life with all of her strength.
She pulls the cold sheets to her nose and smiles with her eyes at the one she loves, whispering ever so faintly that she doesn’t want to be left alone.
Every time, she wakes to find out it was all in her mind. Every fucking time.
