To me it looks like the dragon is looking into his/her cave

Thing is, the perspective of the dragon and the rest of the scene doesn't match. The dragon should be falling off the rock, which would be horizontally parallel to the ground, if the perspective of the other rocks is correct.

You can't see the ground in this image, as it is technically below the frame. This means that you would technically be looking up at the dragon and column he is perched atop, thereby not being able to see the surface he is on.

You're looking up. Based on this, the dragon is parallel to the ground.
The dragon and the rock are not in the same perspective as the rest of the image.

The rock he is sitting on is actually the only perfectly vertical structure in the image - all of the other rocks are angled away from the viewer. I can see now how the lighting on the rocks on the bottom would cause confusion though, as I didn't really foreshorten them enough for the bounced light to make sense, but what can you expect from something done at 2AM xD
