Description The Sister loves cows. When I started messing around with crochet stuffed animals, I knew she had to be one of my first Victims of Random Gifting.

Each part is single crochet in the round, and assembled with more of the same yarn. Safety eyes, ribbon and craft cowbell accent the peice.

How did you make the head that shape?

I'm sorry I didn't see this until just now!

To get the broad nose, ch5 and do a row of sc, then ch1 and flip the whole thing over to work into the bottom loops, then join. You can then work in the round on it, but rather than a circle it'll be an oblong shape which it maintained by doing your increases on the short ends. Then do decreases for the narrow part after the nose, and then increase back out for the broad part of the head.

I improvised. I ripped out several times. I think it came out pretty well, though!

This is so cute! Best amigurumi cow I've seen yet! Do you sell your patterns at all?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

blackunicorn In reply to Skuldier [2009-05-13 04:08:21 +0000 UTC]

When I was doing these I did them sort of freeform, so no patterns, unfortunately. Thanks for the kind words

That's too bad. If you ever come up with a pattern for that, let me know, because I'd love to buy it! Good luck on your amigurumi in the future.

O.O! -clings to the amigurumi cow- That is so great! How did you make it?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

blackunicorn In reply to Katana987 [2009-01-22 17:52:02 +0000 UTC]

I just crocheted in the round until a cow came out. I ripped a lot of stitches out in the process, and the feet, ears, etc are all stitched on (ooh, and the spots, too). But that's pretty much it!

wow, i love this. I just started crocheting amigurumi. I started with a bird.... it turned into a fish, and then I did a butterfly. I so want to do a cow for my little sister for christmas that looks like the one in our comic: [link] but can't figure out how to get it to look right. Any suggestions?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

blackunicorn In reply to awynndream [2008-12-17 17:39:49 +0000 UTC]

boy, I wish I had checked DA sooner, because my best suggestion is to keep ripping out the wonkiness until it looks right, which means it takes a long time to make anything (I don't do patterns). I made a little teeny cow to go along with this one that's mostly tubes

*squee* So cute! My sister loves cows, too--but, then so do I. Our parents are dariy milkers. We grew up around cows. ^^ This crochet turned out beautifully, I especially like the shape of her nose.

Adorable! This is just the cutest little cow I've seen.

Besides those cows over by the ag building who have canulae in their sides so that evil ag people can look into their rumen. My sister and I call them "doughnut" cows.

Anyway! Nice attention to detail! I like how firm the stuffing seems to be -- it really make her stand properly! Nice job!

blackunicorn In reply to pre-heated-death [2006-02-26 10:49:17 +0000 UTC]

I was raised in the urban jungle, so I had to look up "cannulae" and "rumen." I am both very grossed out and very amused!

blackunicorn In reply to belle-ville [2006-02-26 10:36:26 +0000 UTC]

As a matter of fact, I'm in the middle of a pig right now- it's quite a bit smaller than this is (it's around 5 of six inches while this stands around 8 or 10) but I'm working out some hinks of good pig design in the mean time. Drop me a line (ronnie@blackunicorn.org) if you're still interested in working something out

You crocheted a cow...Thats AMAZING! Its the cutest thing I've ever seen...Its got utters! I can't crochet anything...its quite sad.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

blackunicorn In reply to SeriousDisco [2006-02-26 10:45:48 +0000 UTC]

It took me YEARS to finally figure out how to crochet. My mother tried to teach me when I was a kid, and I just couldn't figure it out. Almost 15 years later I found a gazillion diagrams and videos on the internet and it finally made sense. So if you've only tried one method to learn, try another. You may surprise yourself.

It's actually really easy after you try it once and ruin something ^_^

this'll show you the basics:
[link]

and this'll show you how to do increases and decreases to make shapes:

after that, it's all cake!

They actually go "meu" w/o the "h," but French cows are so much more awesome!!

I love this! It's very creative. My sister has a fetish for cows too... it's lambs with me XD

A fetish for cows? Original!

madeinmars In reply to madeinmars [2006-02-15 07:34:15 +0000 UTC]

Quite true!
In French comics, people who sleep are often doing a bubble with a log being cut by a saw...
French cats go 'miaou'
French dogs go 'ouaf ouaf'
French ducks go 'coin coin'
French roosters go 'cocorico'
French birds go 'piou piou'
...
...
...

The thing is that we don't use the same sounds to describe noices -they are called 'onomatopoeia'- for we don't have the same phoneme -the same vowelic prononciation....

I'll ask a friend about spanish cows...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

blackunicorn In reply to madeinmars [2006-02-26 10:40:07 +0000 UTC]

Neat! I only really know a few for Japanese (and, well, English which doens't count because it's my native language), and I have a vague recollection for the Spanish (I remember most of them being similar to French)

Japanese cows say "Mou,"
cats say "nyan" or "nyao"
dogs say "wan wan"
frogs say "gero gero"
...and something says "kikirikiri" but I don't remember what. Might be a rooster.

tetrastar In reply to madeinmars [2006-02-14 23:34:00 +0000 UTC]

Lol I have no idea. I learned that in French class. I wonder if Spanish cows moo differently as well?

You know how in American comics, we depict people sleeping by doing a bubble with "Zzzz" in it? The French do "ron ron ron." Apparently that's the sound a person makes when they are sleeping/snoring. Oh, the things you learn in school.
