Description There are lots of messed up parts, the deep shades gave me a really hard time. There’s so much hair too, I really have to practice drawing hair properly. Proportion is still something I have to work on too.

Also I learned something new when sketching this and I have to be honest I learned this the hard way. It is said that you shouldn't smudge with your fingers. Not only because pencil lead builds up in your fingers, but also accidents can happen. So when I was drawing this, an ant was wandering in my sketch pad, I took it out of course but at some point I didn’t notice it wandered back and accidentally smudge it in. Thank goodness though I was able to work around that smudged ant!! *sigh* LESSON LEARNED!!!

This is also the fastest time I draw like this, which probably is a reason why I messed up. I admit I hurried it!!

Melody. is a retired JPop singer, I was so annoyed at Miyavi when I found out that the reason she retired is because they got married! ...but obviously I’m pass that, I wouldn’t draw him if I don’t like him and his music, ne? I even followed Miyavi’s twitter hoping to find Melody (that was around March 2011). Melody, at that time doesn’t have twitter, but recently she finally made one!! So happy!! I just wanna say this cause Melody tweeted before that most of her followers are Miyavi’s fan and she’s looking for her fans. That’s obviously not true cause I followed Miyavi because of her! LOL

her name is usually written with a "dot" in the end, I guess for easy internet search...

^_^ Heheh your comments made me laugh. But on to the picture, it's awesome. I can't really do portraits. I was getting the hang of it, but then, I haven't drawn for a while. :/ So it's like I admire this! The face is perfect.

i'm kind of happy the my mishap made you laugh LOL
thank you~ the face is probably the part I concentrate the most
and do try drawing portraits again but don't ever ever ever smudge with your fingers, well it's either that or you make sure there's no ants wandering around.

Haha It really did, when I was reading it! xDD Yeah, I end up doing that a lot too. That's where the most important part of the piece is.

And yess! I've had that happen before and I ruin it so bad a lot of times. I think you use a certain artist tool for it. I forgot the name. But it helps to use that instead! Ahaha or both!

I'm still pretty new to this portrait thingy to be honest. I only have 3 types of pencils. and other artist have more than three and other tools I have no idea what is for and I still don't totally understand the difference between the pencils, they all look the same to me...

Ah, the difference is because one is softer lead, the other is harder led. 6B I believe is the softest lead, thus it being the darkest lead. Instead of you having to shade in with a 2B pencil like over and over again and press hard and all that stuff, you use the 6B to get the darkest shade. Then I believe the lower the number the lighter and harder the lead is for you. Which you use for lighter shading or lighting. (:

I see.. I actually tested the pencils in the mall but still didn't get it (pathetic, right?). anyway I wasn't able to test every pencil, I was in a hurry I hate it when there's too many people in the mall, that means waiting in line for the cashier LOL!! But I'll definitely look for 6B, dark shades is always a problem. THANKS for the info!!

Oh I see! Yes, 6B will definitely make darker shading SO much easier. I only usually find use for that pencil. The others help too, but I usually on used that one mixed with a regular pencil. XD

I was reading a tutorial the other day, there's also 8B? I check everything next time, hopefully not a lot of people LOL
oh~ have you tried using other materials like charcoal pencil?

There is? I never knew that! It would be a really dark lead I would think. 6B was dark enough, I'll have to look into it too. (:

I have once. It wasn't bad ether, it was fun, but messy for me and hard, in my opinion to keep it going clean
