Classic uniform, classic peril. My original idea was to put her in the clutches of the original pattern cutter (not the TV version, the one from the 1971 comic) but it was a terrible, terrible idea. If you happen to be a villain with a death trap inclination, please don't put your heroines in traps that hide them out of view, thank you.By the way, this is Barbara Gordon before the Joker forced her into a wheelchair. The original and best, although Cassandra Cain was interesting for a while, and all those Oracle years gave us plenty of hilarious stories written by several authors with no clue at all about computers. As you may know, Barbara is now wearing tights again in the new continuity, but for some reason she is now young, immature, unsexy, and weak. Well, I think I'll stay with the original version, with all the campiness included.

I Agree, with you, up until you mentioned "the New Continuity"β¦
Now, some (like yourself) would prefer Barbara/Batgirl to NOT be how she is, in the "New Continuity"β¦
I, however, think that THIS could give the character "Room to Grow" β to give her the Opprtunity", to find out "Who Am I?", and "In what way does THIS Define ME?"

In this day and age of computerized-control and precision machining, I think it only a matter of time before a villainΒ devises a nefarious plan which adds a classic paradox to a classic peril.
A strobe light is used so that the spinning sawblade looks motionless, though of course it is not.Β Then at one-minute intervals, the conveyor brings our helpless heroine one-half the remaining distance to the saw blade.Β

Campy works, and I agree aboutΒ the villain and blocking the line of sight... seems to run some of the best parts of a peril, particularly where this version of Babs was concerned.

The saw-blade is spinning WAY TOO FAST that, instead of a spinning saw-blade, it looks like there's a HUGE BALL!
You might want to add just a little "detail definition", to the spinning saw-blade, there, Bladebur!

WOW love your work!!! I loved the 1971 comic with the thugs all standing around her. Agree should not have the patern over her, but would have been much better with just the jigsaw in hand.

Hehe, the original comic also had her escape the trap using her teeth to bite the deathtrap and move it out of the way. For all the serious tones and mafia background, it really was as campy and silly as the 60s TV series.

Buzz saws are not my favorite peril - far too messy and graphic but this is artistically very well done. It was 'The Killing Joke' that killed my interest in Batman. He captures The Joker alive every time no matter how many murders the madman has committed and brings him to the Asylum where he escapes once again to murder more innocents. Why not save God knows how many lives and kill the insane villain? I find Superman far more believable that the world's greatest detective, fighter, scientist and whatever else the jerk is. Yvonne Craig was everything a Batgirl should be.

Not crossing that line is what the Batman mythos are about. Other than that, he is as crazy and insane as any of his villains (TKJ actually shows this in a very cool way).
Anybody understands Superman and can relate to him, but he can't exist as an actual person. Nobody is born with a perfect evil/good natural detection system because those terms are nebulous in the real world to begin with. I find the Superman mythos interesting, but I have yet to find a Superman story that doesn't bore me to tears.

Good point about Batman being as insane as his adversaries. My major problem with Batman is the character is supposed to be human like the rest of us but no amount of training, discipline, or superb genetic material is going to make him the 'greatest' in so many fields. He is a fantasy character and as substantial as smoke.
Superman, on the other hand, if you accept him as a super powered alien, is far more believable. I enjoyed the Superman stories in the '50's and '60's because they were like one big comic, super hero, soap opera. His villains were pathetic and you can only use kryptonite how many hundreds of times before it gets a bit repetitious, so they ventured into an epic story line of a super powered individual trying to pass himself off as normal to the humans closest to him. This was all illustrated by the lovely artwork of Curt Swan. When you were a little exhausted by the adventures of The Flash or Green Lantern and their fights against diabolical villains, you go read a Superman comic and find a story about the hero trying to keep his identity secret from Lois or Jimmy Olsen doing something dumb and needing rescuing or the Bizarro world. Whereas someone like Jack Kirby would have gone whole hog on the alienness of Superman and made it a spectacular science-fiction strip, Superman's writers went the other direction and made it a domestic soap opera - sort of like Patsy Walker with a bemused, super powered, extra terrestrial as Patsy.

A renaissance man is very much possible and was believed to be a noble goal for centuries. It is even the basis of our modern educational systems. In my humble opinion, it is bad writers who make Batman hard to believe. Probably making him a top performer in everything is excessive. He should be, like Sherlock Holmes, world-class in whatever is related to his obsession, but an ignorant in about everything else.
My problem with Superman is his black and white morale, I have zero problems with his alien origin or superpowers (well, those could be less silly and more consistent, but the same is true for any myth creature or superhero). It is a good thing anyway his writers stay away from science-fiction... Comic writers are terrible at science fiction (with a few massive exceptions such as Gaiman et al.), although probably the medium itself is not the best vehicle for it. Kirby's FF, for example, while it was a great comic and a big step forward, was essentially a big collection of mumbo-jumbo when science was around. It is more or less the same thing with Hollywood and computers.

I probably would have a lot less difficulty with Batman if he was a good detective, conversant with modern scientific crime fighting methods and astute in deducing conclusions from fragmentary evidence because of a first class logical, yet imaginative mind. As for fighting, boxing is a fine form of unarmed combat yet a good boxer would last seconds against the forms of mixed martial arts taught to elite military forces: SEALS, Green Berets, Marine Recon, British SAS, Israeli commandoes and others. I am willing to forget the ridiculous cape, if he didn't beat regularly, and with ease, men who have trained in hand to hand combat all their lives. To me that is an insult to my intelligence.
The Superman soap opera was a nice change of pace from all the other super hero characters. As for morality, Batman does more preaching than Superman ever has.

I realize replying to a two-year old comment is probably rather pointless.. However, as a long-time fan of the Dark Knight I feel compelled to address your lack of knowledge. If you'd bothered to actually do any research into the character, you would know that Bats has trained in no less than 127 forms of martial arts; not mention he can apprently bench-press somewhere in the region of 1000 pounds... Against someone that strong & well-trained, a cookie-cutter Marine probably isn't gonna last too long!
And yes - I would be the first to agree that idea of one man gaining such proficiency in so many forms of combat within a single life-time is just a tad ridiculous! However, if you're gonna believe in a man who can fly faster than the speed of light & shoot lasers from his eyes, then.. Well, I think old Bats is actually pretty tame by comparison!
That's my two-cents worth, anyway....

It's called 'a willing suspension of disbelief' and I choose to exercise it in the case of Superman because he is an open science fiction construct. Β I do not choose to exercise it in the case of Batman because he is a supposedly realistic character and I find him too unbelievable for that.
I have neither the time nor the interest to research 70 plus years of Batman comic books, television shows and movies to learn about how many types of martial arts he knows - I didn't know there were that many.
'Cookie-cutter' Marines have been protecting this country, in the real world, for the past 200 plus years. Β As my D.I. said in Boot Camp when asked how come we weren't learning unarmed combat, "You're given an automatic rifle. Β If in a fire fight, you have to rely on hand to hand, you're already f****d." Β Any Marine or any other member of our armed forces, if confronted by a bizarrely garb character bent on Β doing them harm, would put half a magazine of .223 caliber rounds into him.

Hey bud, I'm not looking to start an argument about it; I was merely puzzled as to where you got the quaint notion that boxing is the sum total of Batman's fighting techniques.. Sure, maybe back in the days when they were still adding "thwak" & "ka-pow" to his fight scenes, but the character's come quite a long way since then!
As to how Batman generally deals with armed assailants, I refer you to the beautifully crafted Arkham games by Rocksteady - in these games, attempting to tackle a gun-wielding enemy head-on will, more often than not, result in an ignominious death, followed by a trip to the gameover screen.. Which is precisely why Bats - & by extension you, the player - must employ both strategy & stealth to take out the bad guys without them seeing you. The Man of Steel might be able to stroll unmolested through a hail of gunfire with nary a care; but, being only human after all, Batman tends to be a bit more sensible in those situations.. As lethal as a firearm may be, you can't shoot something if you don't see it coming!
Btw; I'm all for willing suspension of disbelief.. Hell, I wouldn't even be able to read comics if I didn't take things with a hefty dose of salt! That being said.. I'm sorry, but I'm afraid even I have to draw the line at a character who can destroy apparently an entire galaxy.. Just. By. SNEEZING?!
