Is it just me or does Emmitt sound like Chris Pratt?

I love the message that no one is perfect, but everyone is special in their own ways. Such a deep message...

Blairaptor In reply to BlueYusei [2014-08-08 18:22:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I loved that about it. And my parents were really impressed with, especially my Dad, which says a lot because he generally only likes nonfiction or historical fiction stories, haha. The other great thing about the film is that it really takes advantage of the legos themselves. When I first saw the trailer I was excited, but I feared the movie would be written in such a way that them being made out of legos didn't matter to the plot, but boy was I wrong! A pleasant surprise, that was.

I thought the film would be very kiddy like to watch when I saw the trailer, but boy was I wrong. I'm starting to get feelings for Emmet too.

Thanks! Ah, this was just a warmup sketch but it has become quite popular for some reason - I might have to make a better version one of these days.

I do humanize Warrior Cats as well if you'd like to look in my gallery for those. ^^

oh. my. goodness!

i *might* see that today, it just looks fabulous. i'm so glad to see others interested in it as well! the comedy looks rich, and so does the animation. and it's about... Legos. i had concocted a plan to draw, uh... "President Business" possibly possibly possibly because i already know i'll love him

by the way, your humans are looking gorgeous. you're learning how light works on a human face, i can really tell. the noses especially.

Blairaptor In reply to UrnamBOT [2014-02-08 22:19:30 +0000 UTC]

I just saw it, and the humor is perfect. It's pretty fresh and makes excellent use of everything being LEGO instead of just saying "let's make a movie and by the way everything's in LEGO form". Yes, Lord/President Business was great - but his hair is weird I can't get over it! D:

Thanks! XD I have been trying so hard and I think I finally got the noses down. i could always do them better on paper than digitally but now I think it's about the same. ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UrnamBOT In reply to Blairaptor [2014-02-09 21:52:30 +0000 UTC]

ahhhhh i just saw it too

the humor was so good, some of the best i've seen in a movie, especially in a recent one.

*SPOILERS AHEAD EVERYONE. SPOIIIIIIIILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS*

President Business was my favorite character. i loved his hair [and his odd wrinkles] xD couldn't stop looking at his mop

normally the ending would have been labelled 'cliche' in my book but the whole moment of realization that Emmet makes that he's just a [spoil spoil spoil...] pawn in a sea of one guy's 'perfect' creation, and the connection they make that the whole thing is the result of two imaginations clashing together made it perfect and very, VERY suitable.

ahhhh, noses. they're in the center of our faces, and they're nightmares to draw. xD

i'd say i'm equal in skill for both digital/traditional art but for precision, i can't paint traditionally and have it be as precise as if it were digital. with a mechanical pencil though, it can get pretty detailed. but give me a thick slab of charcoal and it's all over.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blairaptor In reply to UrnamBOT [2014-02-10 22:34:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, I loved the sense of humor. It has the same directors as Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which has similar, often meta-based humor. And great one-liners.

I feel like I'm really starting to understand how you think when it comes to characters, Urnam. XD I am nor surprised that he was your favorite.

Yes! I know what you mean - I was enjoying it for all its fun elements but the live-action sequence just really brought it all home in a totally new light! Although my little bro was pointing out that if everything was a result of the kid playing with the LEGOs, does that mean the kid removed Good Cop's face? Because that almost makes it more horrible. D:

Ah, I've been painting digitally for a while, but I've only had a program that actually works with the pen pressure on my tablet for perhaps a year (a few months less, actually). So I am behind, but I'm catching' up! Yes, no matter what the ability to go small and do detail is so important ahahaha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UrnamBOT In reply to Blairaptor [2014-02-12 01:53:42 +0000 UTC]

oh the one-liners were half of the humor xD

you've figured me out!!! you've solved the rubik's cube! D:Β yup, just about any middle-aged egotistical idiot/dude in a position of power i melt for

when everything turned live action i suddenly realized how thoughtful the movie had been like that "whoooooaaaa" moment

i felt there was a bit of foreshadowing when the brick was taken off of the huge tower using sound effects a kid could make with his mouth, as well as how the morgan freeman wizard guy was floating from a string. a STRING!!! i thought something was up XD

well don't you worry, you have a lot of time to practice now that you have freedom, make the best of it! i see improvements in your art and although improvement takes time, i can still see it in your work.

Blairaptor In reply to UrnamBOT [2014-02-12 01:59:26 +0000 UTC]

"Ew, get your retro spaceship stuff out of my area!"

Haha, I see. XD For me it's the young male dork who's a genius but doesn't realize it… and hardly anyone around him realizes it either. But at least he has a huge heart.

You're right - the kid sound effects were funny by themselves, but then after the fact I realized that were hints. And Vitruvius on a string was a dead giveaway, right before the switch, haha.

Aw, thank you! I see it too. XD When I clean out my room or clean out old computer files I can see it, pft. Sometimes just a little, sometimes a lot.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UrnamBOT In reply to Blairaptor [2014-02-12 02:09:12 +0000 UTC]

"SPACESHIP!?!?!"

ahhhh i also happen to love those characters as well, dorks for life

also to me, when people explain what their favorite types of characters are shows me a little of who those kinds of people really are like, sometimes it's a little of who they are, other times it's a perfect match. often the kinds of characters they like are the ones they relate most to, and that tells me a little bit about them.

foreshadowing is hard D: it's hard to give a slight hint at something that's about to happen and give people that "gut feeling" without making it painfully obvious, and still making the audience wonder if their gut feeling is right or not.

no problem, bud

Blairaptor In reply to UrnamBOT [2014-02-12 02:29:36 +0000 UTC]

I thought you'd like that part. I did too - I think that scene got more laughs from me than almost any other scene. X'D

I feel like you an I are really similar but since we've never officially met I can't be sure, hehe. The character trait I mostΒ  value is authenticity, and those dorks generally have it and that's why their society doesn't understand them. But also I like smart charters because I'm smart.Β

I feel the strange thing about foreshadowing is that it almost works better in hindsight. Something happens and the audience goes "oh snap remember when (something happened) oh that was foreshadowing what's happening now!" I guess, when it's working really well it's working on the audience subconsciously, though, and that's why they don't notice the first time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UrnamBOT In reply to Blairaptor [2014-02-14 02:31:16 +0000 UTC]

i was actually thinking the same thing yesterday! i wondered to myself how similar we might be if we ever met each other sometime.

authenticity is a quality that everyone in the creative field strives for. it's extremely important.

unless you mean like they express who they are instead of being "fake"?

ah well. either way, i think both definitions work.

for me, i dont mind if a character is "fake" or "shallow" but it all depends on where they go with it and what role they play as a character. if it's the main character or a major character, i want to see why they are like that or what will make them change. i want to see them act "real" at some point, and show us their "real" feelings.

ohhhhh smart characters. forgot how important that was for a moment. yeah i take that back, any smart narcissistic guy that may or may not be in a position of power i adore. usually it'll tone down how much i like the character if he's dumb as bricks, because in the back in my head i'm thinking, "oh brother... i'm smarter than him." and can usually calculate what he'll do next.

oh, unless that character is Wheatley. eeeeveryone loves wheatley, even in his power-mad, high-strung state as a giant, all-powerful AI. he's way too surprising for me to dislike. the sheer wit of his seemingly un-witty remarks was just too charming and new. for like, everyone.

Well, if we're ever both working at Pixar or whatever I'll hunt you down and be like "Remember me? "

I think I mean both. I used to say I valued honestly most, but then I realized more correctly it was authenticity I was after. So yes. ^^

And i like fake characters too, yes. I don't consider myself "fake" so I like to see why people would act fake. Like Lucy in The LEGO Movie, I suppose.Β

Yeah, intelligence is important. Like when I'm making friends, even. I have to befriend smart people. XD And I remember one time my mom was talking about how I'll have to marry a smart guy or he'll drive me crazy and I might feel like i'm above him. Wouldn't want that. O:

Oh my goodness, I need to watch someone play Portal. X'D I don't have a PC but with Let's Plays and all there are ways!

pixarrrrrrr just thinking about pixar makes me excited, i guess we'd both love nothing more than to work there!

i see

i often view "fake" characters as strangely mysterious. it's just another one of those qualities that draw you in more and more...

I can't see myself marrying someone un-smart either xD i see where you're getting at here, haha

YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED PORTAL!?!?! sorry for giving you spoilers then XD it really is a wonderful game though, possibly the greatest one i've played. and oddly enough, its sequel was better!

wow, i wish my memory was erased of portal 2 so i could re-live the story for the first time all over again xD that is the only story in existence i have ever wished for that to happen.

True, true. Although I also adore Sony's stretchy, 2D style. Only they haven't done that with all their films, so it's not a guarantee that as an employee I could animate that way.

Ah, I am of the rare breed of teenager that grew up in a house with no computers. Didn't have one until '09, I believe. And even then it's always been family computers, never my own, and always Macs. I love Macs, but they mean no gaming. XD

Wow, I need to, then! Yeah, I think I'll try and find a god Let's Play so I can experience the story without, you know… buying a whole new commuter AND the game, hehe.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UrnamBOT In reply to Blairaptor [2014-02-18 16:22:00 +0000 UTC]

it's sad to see traditional animation getting the boot. :'P to think we grew up in the generation where "traditional animation DIED!"

ahhhhh maaaaan xD no computers? well... cant say i *did* grow up using computers all the time, but around 6 years ago i actually began to use one more faithfully. but i always had computers around, even if they weren't in use. you though, that's cray

but at least you use a mac

there are LOTS of let's plays for portal and portal 2 since the game is incredibly popular. i'm sure you won't have a problem finding one!

Blairaptor In reply to UrnamBOT [2014-02-23 03:01:15 +0000 UTC]

So true. But it's a foundation that cannot be destroyed.

Yep. No TV in my room, no cell phone 'til tenth grade, and when we did get computers I had to ask permission to go on and was given a time limit. Do I feel like my parents are oppressive? Nah. I love my family. We're so functional and I'm just thankful for that. But people outside don't get why I'm not protesting the "injustice" of it all.
