Slowly Hina and Baron are coming closer to the palace of the mysterious princess, but then they have to decide which way they take to get into the palace. The main entrance or the hidden entrance in the rose garden? After dealing with many pesky fairyland creatures, Hina chooses the entrance in the garden. But when she enters the garden, she suddenly gets attacked by the rose tendrils. It seems like they are controlled by a magic force. While Hina tries to fight off the plants, the captain of the palace guard appears to fight the intruders.
Rosalia von Dornberg is the leader of the palace guard and one of Sogohime’s creations. Since she was “born” she lived in the palace together her best friend Shiroyukihime and they both shared the same dream: becoming a real princess. They both believed that a princess’ life is just like in fairy tales and they would live with their prince happily ever after. Especially Rosalia loved to read stories about poor girls who had to go through hardships and got saved by the prince. And so she started to believe that this was going to work in their world too. Otogi no Kuni was a fairyland after all so why shouldn’t she get her happy ending too and become a beautiful princess? After Shiroyukihime asked the wishmaker to grant her wish, Rosalia decided to do the same. She didn’t know what a bad turn her best friend would get and she also ignored the warning of the wishmaker. They told her that those fairy tales she use to know aren’t that innocent and have their dark sides. Especially her favorite fairy tales had dark and bloody secrets. But she refused to believe that and wished that she would be in a dead-like state so the prince would have to save her. Rosalia just didn’t want a beautiful prince at her side. He had to be strong and brave so he should have to prove his love for her by saving her from danger.
The wishmaker granted her wish and told Rosalia to go to a dark fairy who would help her. Rosalia left the palace and travelled to an abandoned castle where the fairy was waiting for her. The fairy wounded her with a cursed needle and Rosalia fell asleep. Rose tendrils started to overgrow the whole castle and only a royal man would be able to destroy this giant wall of roses and get into the castle. One-hundred years passed and nobody came to the castle, until a king heard about a legend of a sleeping beauty inside the castle of roses. But instead of saving her from her sleep by taking the needle out of her wound to wake her up, he raped her several times. Rosalia didn’t notice anything because she was still asleep and even after she got pregnant by her rapist, she still didn’t wake up. She kept sleeping until she gave birth to twins and one of them sucked the needle out of her wound. Rosalia immediately woke up and was deeply shocked when she saw two babies but no prince and she couldn’t understand it. Why wasn’t a prince in her room who woke her up and why were there two babies in her bed? Slowly she started to understand that she was raped while being asleep.
After the king left his kingdom to go to the rose kingdom once again, Rosalia was awake and he realized that he impregnated her and that these two babies were his children. Now he had a big problem: he was married and he didn’t want his wife to know about this affair. So he locked Rosalia and the babies in the castle and returned to his kingdom.
But Rosalia couldn’t forgive him and demanded justice. She called for the fairy who casted the spell over her and told her to give her the power to take revenge on the man who took her virginity and just left her behind. The fairy, who felt bad for the young mother, turned her into a rose demon and Rosalia gained the ability to control the roses and thorns just by the power of her will.
The vengeful demon lady left the castle together with her children but it took many years for her to find the kingdom where the king lived. And after she learned the truth that he was already married, she confronted him and demanded justice. The king’s wife, who was unable to give birth to children, got jealous of Rosalia and the children and wanted to get rid of them. So she told her guards to arrest Rosalia and the children and commanded the cook to kill them and cook their flesh. Rosalia was the only one who managed to escape but she wasn’t able to save her children. And so she had to witness how they got slaughtered and served as a meal to the king who ate their flesh.
The king didn’t know about this, but Rosalia didn’t care about that. She just wanted justice for the rape and the death of her children. So she used her power to attack the castle and murdered everyone until the castle was filled with corpses. After destroying the whole castle, Rosalia lost all hope and didn’t believe that there would be something like a happy ending for her. She understood what the wishmaker was talking about back then and that the most romantic fairy tales were the darkest ones. There would be no prince for her, no marriage and no happiness. So all she could do was returning home to Otogi no Kuni and ask her creator to allow her to stay in the palace. At first she was afraid that her creator would be angry because she left her and ignored all warnings, but Sogohime didn’t blame her for anything and allowed her to stay in the palace as long as she wanted.
And after losing her purpose in life, Rosalia started to search for a new task and decided to join the palace guard and use her power to protect the princess. She trained hard and became the best swordfighter in the whole kingdom.
Rosalia was happy to be reunited with her best friends and spent her free time with them when she was not training her fighting skills. But even though she was able to laugh and smile again, she could never forget what happened to her and her children. She never wanted to be so weak ever again and let a man touch her ever again. Now she was the rose demon of righteous wrath.
When her mistress created a new being who should help her with certain plans, this being accidentally created a strange virus which only contaminated books and documents and erased them from existence and also every memory about them. After hearing about these news, Rosalia told her best friend Shiroyukihime to get all documents and lock them in the treasure chamber until they found a way to destroy the virus. Meanwhile she told the other guards to help Shiroyukihime while she would stay and protect the palace.
Hina: “This flower garden is beautiful.”
Baron: “Oh? This is the first time you said something nice. Is something wrong with you?”
Hina: “No, I just like pretty gardens and flowers. But… hey! What the heck is this? The roses are attacking us!”
Baron: “Seems like someone is manipulating them with magic.”
Hina: “Oh great… Don’t tell me it’s a green-haired sadistic flower youkai who wants to kill us.”
Rosalia: “I am the captain of the royal palace guard. Who are you and what are you doing here?”
Baron: “Oh, what do I see here? A beautiful and fair rose lady. Hello my sweet beauty, my name is Baron Samedi and this is my contract partner Hina.”
Hina: “Baron, stop it. You are making everything worse again…”
Baron: “If you know me better, I bet you’ll want to spend more time in bed than Sleeping Beauty.”
Rosalia: “…”
Hina: “And here we have another look of a thousand deaths.”
Rosalia: “This is your death warrant, you filthy man. You are going to pay for this!”
Baron: “Geez, why are all fairy tale princesses such man-haters?”
AFTER FIGHT:
Rosalia: “I… I failed. That’s impossible. I’m the strongest swordfighter in the whole kingdom! And now I couldn’t even protect the palace against two intruders.”
Hina: “Alright, keep wallowing in self-pity. I still have a fucking job to do.”
