I think I'll share something that I've learned doing this for...three years? Four? Something that I wish I'd known beforehand.
I imagine the story in segments. Key scenes that I have developed, and build the story around them, eventually connecting them in a chain of events that could be loosely described as a plot.
This means that a lot of the "in-between" material was more or less improvised with the end goal being to get to the next "big moment".

I thought that this would give me some flexibility when working, to be able to take greater liberties as long as I made my way to the moments that I wanted.

Maybe it sounds obvious at this point, but I realised that this was not a great plan. It made things more haphazard than they ought to be, with the well-crafted bricks in the proverbial wall glued together with twigs and clay, yeah?
So I got my work cut out for me. When I have reinforced the foundations of this story by applying the feedback and revelations that I've gotten, I will apply my insight to the sequel. Try something new.

Maybe the proper course of action is not to improvise, but instead make proper chapters that can be planned well in advance. There's probably a reason why authors do it like that, yeah?

Sure, I often get bummed out by how difficult this comic turned out to be, but the things I learn are invaluable!
