I can imagine what was the price of gas after watching Two-Lane Blacktop... That's one of the reasons why we all would like to live in 60s-70s.

I believe the "fat men choking on dollar bills" might actually be covered in the movie, where Jack decides not to join everyone after dinner in cigars and brandy. Both are indeed tragic though: the economy's major slump, and Hollywood's idea of an elderly Kate Winslet.
