Well your pixels ain't half bad. It's alright 
So just practice, a lot... Like all the time!
And being serious, talent seems like huge part of what one can do and cannot...
So my real advice is have fun! If you like something than do it. If you do it a lot you will improve.
You may try to use some other software (you use Paint, right?) that is more pixel art oriented (I use free version GraphicsGale) I know that tools are just tools, but with right tools you can make stuff easier and faster.

At the same time I am also colorblind so I prefer monotone colors as I can't shade for dick. I have talked with a professional pixel artist, namely Rhopunzel who is a sprite artist for Starbound, and even she didn't really know what advice to give to a colorblind pixel artist.
I KNOW my lineart is amazing, but I can't bring out the life Blastwaves can all because of that shading issue. I was seriously just joking when I asked that.
And TBH: I have been quite independent in making my own pixel art for quite some time. For my federation, the UPF, I use almost exclusively my own work and for my ponies I just give them ARMA3, Ace Combat, and Call of Duty crap that Blastwaves just so happened to make. (Also, thank you BlastWaves for those sprites. You sure you don't want my Xian? I got the B&W lineart for it and I would be more than happy to see you modify it)

How severe is your colorblindness?
I am colorblind too. Generally I see grass as green and sky as blue, but often if I try to name some color it turns out I'm wrong. My worst fear in making pictures is that one day I will make something pink instead of blue...
It happen to me once, in racing game I made my car purple when I wanted nice deep blue...
I mostly get by using sites like this or this . Or ask my wife how colors turned out.
Also limited pallets help, like up to 4-5 shades of each color.
But probably you tried it before.

I believe I am a unique kind of colorblindness. My brother works with a company that specializes in making color correcting eye wear for colorblind people. I have tried them on and found minimal success. Not only that but when I turn colorblind mode on in video games none of the options really help me out either.
Like, imagine if the world was a lot less detailed in shading. That is what I experience. Colors just blend for me if they are so similar.
