I stood there, my entire neighborhood in the dark, and probably the entire city. My brother and I walked to the end of the street only to see a red beaming in the distance, behind the mountain. Already a huge cloud of smoke was lifting up, all I could think was "beautiful." I had never felt so small in my life. "It's probably not that bad." Not even an hour later and the fire had reached the top of the mountain, we could see it from our porch. 150 homes destroyed by the next morning. 50,000 acres turned to dust the next day. And now the fire is two streets away from my college. I take back what I said then. Nothing about this is "beautiful."
