My entry to *Rythmear 's You're the Boss! Contest.

A path to evil usually starts with good intentions. Scala believed she could control the Paragon of Magic, despite Sylph's warnings about its overflow of arcane power. What neither of them knew is that the Paragon was alive. After millennia of being swept to and fro throughout time and space, it began developing a consciousness of its own, a will that must be carried out. It wanted a host and it wanted one badly.

It refused Archon and it was cast away by him, only to fall into the hands of the young naga. Hoping that she could use its powers for good, she broke the seal and it swarmed into her mind. Shutting away the old personality, Scala's body became the host to a god-like creature, one that demanded obedience and sacrifice.

Scalashura, the Sun Goddess, was born.

Boss Fluff:

So she's comprised of two parts, Scala's transformed body and the enlarged Paragon of Magic, now a portal that can be used to tap into its unlimited source of power. In a way, Scala is the guardian of the Paragon, so if she's defeated, it lies open to attack. But it also has three seals that must be closed before it finally closes permanently. Meanwhile, Scala's body can be reinvigorated to stop you from attacking the Paragon again!

Most of Scala's attacks consist of elemental attacks involving fire with her free hand and deadly swings from her swords. She can also tap into the Paragon and open another portal to the heart of a sun, which requires a set-up time. If she's defeated before the count-down is complete, this devastating attack will be nullified.

The Paragon of Magic has three heads, each carrying an element of Earth, Water and Wind. They have to be defeated with the element they're weakest to before they can be sealed (which results in a closed mouth). In order to tell what type of element is being activated at the time, the background scene on the portal will change (So if there's a sea, its a water element. A space scene would be non-elemental and physical attacks would suffice in place of elemental attacks, but they won't be as effective). Focus attacks on one head at a time. You won't be able to defeat them all in one go, so be prepared to fight Scala several times.

So think of it as the Lavos Core from Chrono Trigger, targeting the REAL boss is not always straight forward.

I bet you weren't expecting to see Scala as a boss, huh? XP

I'm really proud of this, even if I did have a few problems later on when I was colouring, most of them had to do with the weapons and the arms >.o but it turned out ok. I especially love that ring and all the designs on the edges. I wish I could've done more in terms of background, but nothing was really coming to mind, plus most of it would be covered up.

If you guys have any ideas, I'll be willing to try them.

I might do one more with myself ;3
