Meme Template: 8 Stories That Would Make Great Musicals
Is it weird that I've been interested in Broadway musicals despite the fact I've only ever seen one in my life (so far, that musical was "Man of La Mancha" in case you're wondering) and I'm not too big on live action stuff (nothing against it, I just prefer animated stuff)?
Well, regardless, here's my top 8 stories/media that (I think) would make great or at least interesting musicals. I mainly tried picking stuff that would make sense as a musical, hence why most of the stuff on this list are musicals or music related in some way.
Also note that these wouldn't have to be like big "Hamilton" styled country-tour style musicals, these could be small local-ish musicals, basically as long as it's a stageplay with songs sung by the actors, then it counts.
Anyways, onto the show!
Yellow Submarine
I'm honestly surprised they never made a Broadway musical for this movie, considering how The Beatles were and still (kinda) are a force in pop culture, and how (semi) timeless the movie has become over the decades. Plus it would be interesting to see how they pull off the colorful and surreal vibes of the scenes on a stage. The closest thing currently is "The Beatles: Love" show from Cirque du Solei.
Definitely would prefer a Broadway musical over something like the (thankfully cancelled) nightmare fuel of a remake Robert Zemecicks tried to make.
Also, I think it'd be cool if they use the Cody Fry version of Eleanor Rigby if they do ever make this a musical.
Goosebumps
Now before you mention it, I know there was that Goosebumps musical based on Phantom of The Auditorium, it makes sense why that was made into a musical since the book it adapted was based on one of the most infamous musicals of all time. This isn't so much "I want this to be a musical because it never got one" but more "I want more stuff from this franchise to become musicals" because I think it would be interesting to see musicals based on some of the other books and media of the series. I think it would be cool to see Goosebumps have a series of musicals instead of just one.
Some of the possible books/media that could be made into musicals are: Welcome to Camp Nightmare, One Day at Horrorland, The Haunted Mask, The Horror at Camp Jellyjam, Attack of The Mutant, A Night in Terror Tower, The Chillogy, Invasion of The Body Squeezers, and the Goosebumps movie.
I do know there was this "Goosebumps: Live on Stage" thing, but unfortunately not much is known about it aside from the tie-in story and a commercial or two for it. Sadly there is no footage of the musical on Youtube or anywhere else to my knowledge, due to it being preformed in 1998.
Monster High: Boo York, Boo York
The movie already has the feel of a Broadway musical, so it would only make sense to adapt it to the stage. The only issue is the fact that current Mattel is focused on G3 so I doubt they would back to making a musical based on G1. But hey, they do still make dolls for G1 fans and have established that Gen 1, 2, and 3 are basically alternate universes within canon, so it's still possible.
Barbie: The Princess and The Pauper
(Or really any Barbie movie)
Like with Yellow Submarine, I'm honestly surprised they haven't made a Barbie Broadway musical considering the cultural impact Barbie has today. The reason I specified The Princess and The Pauper is because that's the most infamous and popular Barbie musical to my knowledge. However, really any Barbie movie could become a Broadway musical. I mean Swan Lake, Diamond Castle, 12 Dancing Princesses, Island Princess, Fairytopia, there's a lot to choose from.
Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Movie
I mean it's already a musical film so...plus the 3D models the movie used didn't exactly age well, so I'd be all for experiencing the movie again in a more visually appealing way. Plus I would love what they could do with the dreamy pastel sets.
Lalaloopsy: Band Together
Mainly just put this here because the movie the movie was already a musical. I would be interested to see what the sets of Lalaloopsy land would look like and how the costumes would look on the actors. I was originally gonna suggest The Search for Pillow (the first Lalaloopsy movie), but I felt Band Together made more sense from the musical aspect of things.
The Tinker Bell/Pixie Hollow Movies
(Or perhaps the books)
With all the musicals that adapt or are based off of Peter Pan, I think it would be interesting to do a Broadway musical based on the Tinker Bell movie. Out of all of them, the first one would make sense the most since it's basically the origin of how Tinker Bell became, well, Tinker Bell. Otherwise I would like to see them do The Pirate Fairy since that's my favorite of the Tinker Bell Movies and it does have original songs for it ("Who I Am" and "The Frigate that Flies").
They could also make a musical based on the Pixie Hollow book series, which I have not read, but that would be interesting to see.
The Vampair Series
(Or really anything relating to Aurelio Voltaire)
This certainly is a contrast compared to the more kid-friendly media I suggested but I believe Vampair would make for a great spooky musical along the lines of the Phantom of The Opera, Addams Family, or Beetlejuice musicals. Plus I mean, come on, it's Aurelio Voltaire, who wouldn't want to hear those sweet gothic tunes on stage coupled with macabre sets and dances? Just saying.
