Description Epilogue

Entry from the journal of newly appointed Mother of the Nekos

Much has happened in my short time as Mother. The Nekos, my dear daughters, have started to awaken as if from a long sleep. Many have told me that they are beginning to remember bits of their previous lives, but have acquainted it with scenes from a dream. Many have told me of being ashamed of who they used to be and I am beginning to wonder if returning those memories was truly the right thing to do. I too have suffered some memory trauma. I cannot even remember what I was called as a human. My Neko have taken to calling me Sarah (although Mia still refers to me as Big Sis) and I have to say that the name rings some sort of cord within me, as if the name were always mine.

After our awakening, it was discovered that the protection that was provided to the Nekos had diminished. My daughters were no longer “invincible”, and are once again susceptible to harm. It will not be long before the humans figure this out therefore I have decided it is time find a new home. We have retreated into the low mountains, far from the human settlements. Using the scant knowledge that has been returned to my daughters we have begun the process of building our own settlement. It is slow going, without the technology of times before, but my Nekos are hard working and eager to help. It makes me proud.

Lately I have felt a new power awakening within me. I first toughed it on that night of my ascension. Since then it has grown and I have learned some measure of control over it. As a human I these new abilities would have been associated with what they call Magic. Seems an apt name as any although it does sound a bit crass. Several of my daughters have shown signs of this power awakening in them as well, so I have taken it upon myself to study the energies in order to prevent any accidents from occurring.

Sadly, some of my daughters have rejected both the memories and myself. I can no longer feel them as I can the others. I have sent scouts out looking for these lost souls hoping to bring them back and provide guidance but with each passing day the hope of finding them diminishes. Even my dear sister Lily has rejected the memories of what she had done, blaming herself for their suffering. Her mind has seemed to retreat back to a state of innocence. She is almost child like in her actions, leaving me to lead our nation alone. I am curtain that, given time, she will recover from this but in the mean time I will care for her and my daughters to the best of my ability.

I just pray that they find safety wherever they may be.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The room in which he sat had no light, save for that of the monitor in front of him. Report after report was read on that screen, each telling him of the latest result of the tests. Each with the same result: Failure.
Each failure had tested the patience of the man currently behind the desk. Even with the recovered data collected from the first success, four years ago, each attempt to recreate the serum that had created those detestable beings had ended with uncontrollable mutation or death. One facility had been sanitized after an outbreak of mutants had rendered it in-salvageable (the flesh eating had put the others employees off for weeks). Maybe it had not been had been such a good idea to try and destroy the so called Mother. Who knew her and her kind could survive a six megaton explosion. Now, even with all the resource of their benefactor, their whole operation had been driven underground or suffer the wrath of that which they had created.
It was not as if they had not tried to obtain another sample, but the creatures had been impervious to every method of capture. Many attempts had ended with the complete annihilation of the trapping team, with the participants now added to those that they had hunted. It became increasingly hard to find volunteers to go on said excursions after the teams started to drop one after another.
“Sir!” Light flooded the room from the sudden open door. A slightly frazzled private practically ran the short distance to the front of the desk. The man let out a low growl at being disturbed, ultimately expecting more bad news.
“Sir, a Neko was spotted near the entrance to the base.” the private reported with a salute.
Rolling his eye, the man behind the desk shifted in his seat, “What is so surprising about that, private? Those beasts are everywhere. The fact that one has wondered close to the entrance is nothing new.”
“Well, sir, this one knew where the entrance was and is demanding to be let in. She is insisting that she is a lieutenant of your old base and even asked for you by name.”
A eyebrow shot up, now this was interesting news. “Very well, private, let her in and bring her to me, just make sure to take the usual precautions.”
The private saluted and retreated from the room. It didn't take long for him to return, this time with two others in a gas masks holding automatic rifles at the ready, accompanying a very young looking women with ears and tail.
Both parties stared at each other in silence, the man looking for any signs of aggression while the girl seemed to be having trouble standing at attention. A smile kept trying to emerge from behind her stoic expression and her ear twitched uncontrollably.
Finally the man broke the staring match. “So, the private here says that you claim be a lieutenant.” His critical eye on the look out for deception.
“Nyes,” the Neko squeaked out, her demeanor shifting, “I used to be Lieutenant Carson under nyour direct command at base gamma four years ago.”
“Very interesting,” the man said, “clearly you were one of the ones caught by those beasts. Why is it that you are not mindless like those others out there.”
“Well,” the Neko replied, breaking his stance to take up take of childish discomfort. “Several days ago, Mother Lily brought in a new girl and made her a new Mother. When she did that, the new Mother did something and broke Mother Lily's control over all of us.” The private gave out a exclamation of surprise. The man, ever the professional, did not let his own surprise show.
“So you are telling me that all the Nekos are now free of the influence of the Neko Mother?” The girl nodded, “Even that strange protection they all seemed to have from being hurt?” Another nod, this time accompanied by the girl lifting her arm revealing a rather nasty cut along her side.
The man rose from his chair and circle the desk. Putting his hand under her chin, he turned her head and used his good eye to look deeply into the girl's, she shifted slightly but never broke the gaze. Finally the man released her with a chuckle.
“It speaks very highly of your loyalty that you would return to us, even in such a state.”
“Thank you, sir.” the girl answered, a smile spreading across her face.
“Private, please accompany the lieutenant down to the medical facility so they may take car of her injury.” The private gave a salute, the girl falling in beside him as they headed to the door. “And private please alert Dr. Yovites he has a new patient.”
The Neko froze, all color seemed to drain from her face as her ear laid flat on her head. “Dr Yovites, sir?” She asked, turning around to face him. The man nodded without any change of expression. “b,but I came back, of my o,own free will.”
“Yes and your loyalty will provide us with a lot of answers.”
The Neko just stood there too stunned to speck. She didn't even struggle as the two guards each grabbed an arm and began to drag her from the room, followed quickly by a very unnerved private.
The man ran a finger along the scar over his eye and smiled as he heard the cries start to echo down the halls.
Hello there! Just bingeread this story after being linked to it last night. It was a very cute ride, though I cared more about the survivalist/partly-infected chapters than the "you are fated to become the second mother" ones, though you went in a great direction with that, with Sarah fighting back, freeing the minds of the Neko, and delivering an important life message to Lily.
Now more importantly, the reason I'm bothering to post a comment on an old story - this specific line, "My Neko have taken to calling me Sarah [...], and I have to say that the name rings some sort of cord within me, as if the name were always mine."
I must say, as a trans woman, this sentiment rang so true for me when I changed my name. My old one always sat a bit weirdly for me. I found it ugly, and its meaning was something I wasn't. It felt like I responded to it purely because that's what I'd been trained to do. The contrast I felt when I chose one that fit better, I would've easily compared it to fate due to the sheer scale of positive emotions it brought me.
There's definitely something freeing in realizing that, yes, becoming a woman is just something you can do IRL, and that it's okay to want that. I spent many years consuming all the TG content I could desperately wishing for it to happen to me. I was convinced it was just a fetish and that I was a straight dude - that I *had* to be a straight dude - and then, fuck no, I'm a lesbian woman, turns out! And now I'm the one writing the TG content I wish I could've read when I was younger!
Anyway, hoping you manage to find whatever is the source of your depression, and write more cute stories like this one. <3
This was an incredibly bizarre concept when I first saw it. I thought to myself, "I got some free time, might as well just check it and see if it's worth reading". Boy, was I glad I did that because this is quite amazing. Who would've thought this would have become some emotional surreal sci-fi. There are a few loose threads and plotholes, but someone else already brought those up. For being your first story it's quite good. Better than the vast majority on thos site.
The unanswered questions I mentioned before were:
"With their one track mind, how could Neko agree to let the old man that sold the pair, well, sell them? Were Big Sisters more aware than others? Mother was there? What is the point of putting a prime to his head? Nekos don't care about that and humans wouldn't know of it or how to sell them without being transformed."
"If he was so important to her, why didn't the Mother leave the town to follow Sarah?" Because he was not ready? What changed since then? (already asked, I know)
"how did 'Sarah' escape 4 years ago and how was he able to prevent total transformation for all this time?"
"Why was Carson so hateful and angry?" and "What happened to him after that?"
We have one of the answers (different from what I expected too, nice one). What about the others?
I wondered why the character's name was never given, it's a nice twist, but if you imply the whole series was extracts from the journal it is awkward at best.
I have not much hope given how old it is but is the sequel still planed?
There were a few weird points and maybe plot holes but overall it was an excellent series. Congrats.
Finally!
Thank you for giving me some real feedback, I have been trying to get some for a while now.
First off this was always a first attempt at this story so getting someone to nit-pick it is really gonna help me with the re-write. Now that I know what some of the plot holes are I can work off that. So thank you.
Second, there is a sequel planned. It has just been really hard to write lately (been a really bad year) so please don't give up on me.
You are very welcome. ^^
A rewrite and a sequel!? that's excellent news! And I know how hard it can be, I'll wait patiently.
If you need help or ideas I'd be happy to give.
I believe that he should die in the end, not because of his simple evil intro, but because of how many people (nekos included) he' killed. Seriously, the nekos have killed a grand total of zero, count it in the story, zero people. As seen at the end of the story, all the tgtf'd people weren't dead, simply out of control and under an outside influence but all in all still alive, more so than ever before. When you look at Mr. Evilwiththeface, you find that He has killed (with complete prejudice) Hundreds of innocent people for what I can only guess to be money and influence. As a side note I hope that soldier turned neko at the end lives.
Breh. Why should he be allowed such a simple escape such as death? Death means he'll be allowed an easy get-out-of-jail-free-forever card, and he'll never fully pay for his unjust treatment of them.
Well… that. AND it just wouldn't give me much satisfication for it to conclude with an Anigo Montoya moment.
"My Name is Lily. You killed my lover. Prepare to die."*
(*My name is Anigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepared to die. )
But am I right? …Don't lie, I know you know I am…
True that... the nekos only did what their instincts told them (the mother included, even though her pathing was somewhat wrong)
Him on the other hand... AARGHHH! I just want to burn people like that to crisps!!!
