que significa exactamente el cuadro? ya he visto que no tiene mensaje verdadero pero realmente si se dibuja algo es por repulsa o por amor...

El mensaje es que me gusta hacer todo tipo de arte.
One of a series of 60 watercolors executed (no pun intended) in 1968 for a show at the Galeria Nucia Baram in Calacoaya, Mexico. Commission Work.
I know Bullfighting turns a lot of people off (even in Mexico and Spain), but, these are watercolors, not Photographs, so, if you can, enjoy the artistry of the event through these pieces. Thank you for your indulgence.

okay i am a sucker for all your bulls...now that there are so many i find myself really paying attention to the texture you create within them. this one might be my fave for the colors...so striking.
i see it like the bull is giving his permission with head down.

I went to watch a bull fight in Valencia once. I got through the killing of three of the six bulls planned for the day. I decided that I understood the basic plot: a bunch of blood-thirsty, and very cruel homo sapiens torture a bull to death while the rest of the assembled members of our species cheer mostly for their brave heroes. (A few were cheering for the bull.) It was very difficult to understand the enduring charm of all this (and, indeed, it seems to be losing that charm in Spain, where the younger generation cares little for the spectacle). But members of one culture should be reticent, I suppose, ever to wonder about the values of another. On a more personal, and individual level: Did you ever look back at the convictions you used to hold and wonder how on earth you could have believed those ideas? And, if so, did it make you wonder what views you now hold that will (unexpectedly) embarrass you in years to come? I think about this.

This is a watercolor without a message. It is not advocating animal cruelty or advertising for people to go to a Bullfight. It is posted for people to enjoy (or not) it's aesthetic value. I used to be a fan of the event where I grew up, and eventually I lost interest in it, but I still appreciate the aesthetics of the paintings and sculptures of Bullfighting. As an aside, I find Horseracing, Dog racing, and Boxing a lot more brutal than Bullfighting. Look at what they do to horses who don't become "winners" or to Greyhounds who don't make money for the owner. The bull has a fighting chance, albeit a small one. Events have to be assesed and evaluated in their historical context. Bullfighting goes way back and indeed is now losing favor in Spain because we live in a different world. We like a different kind of violence, like humans killing humans because they don't see eye to eye on color, religion, etc.. We consume gore and hatred like popcorn at the movies. We are becoming more bloodthirsty than any bullfight aficionado ever was. Personally, I must say I have held my convictions pretty much the same since I was about 20 years old and what I used to like then and I don't like now is because it holds no interest for me anymore, not that I can not believe I liked or thought this or that when I was younger. I am an avowed agnostic, bleeding heart liberal democrat, love dogs more than people ( though I love my kids a lot)and enjoy Art, Golf and Baseball at this time in my life.

That's a very interesting point. I liked this piece though, for it's aesthetic qualities. That splash of red on the matador's head and arm gives a sense of guilt or possibly fear, or maybe even a rush of adrenaline (while also tying into the color of the bull). I often wonder about how desensitized we can become to violence though. For example there are films I used to love as a kid, for the blood and gore, but now I couldn't stand to watch them. Your insight is refreshing, and it made me think, so thank you.

Excellent point! I agree one hundred percent about humans killing humans. One thing that has always fascinated me is how people are so quick to show outrage a people hurting animals, but remain silent about the human against human tragedies all around them. It's just shocking.
I still think this is a beautiful piece, and people can make of it what they wish.
