If you have watched me for a great length of time you would know this "Lateralus" title has been one I seem to update twice a year. Constantly trashing the old params and opening up new ones to update the piece, because I am never satisfied with the result. It never settles with me.

Upon looking over this track, and listening, examining, and pondering on the idea, I realized that this was the nature of the song, the nature of the lyrics, and more importantly the time signature, and placement of the lyrics.

for some time I have known that the song is loosely set to the "Golden Ratio" or Fibonacci Sequence. I am not going to discuss the sequence, as I think it would be something that if it interested you, you would look into on your time. (Not read through on a comment.)

But the song suggests the spiral to state that one should not compromise and live one's life in a linear forward motion, set in routine and mundane. More to expand one's horizons and to branch out, fluidly, openly, and bravely reach out and embrace all the opportunities this life has for each and every one of us....However random. (If random exists)

Artistically, as I evolve I will be granted an opportunity to continue to explore this art, and see what all is has to teach me about myself, my experiences, and my current level of creativity, and artistic expression.

I hope that if you are a Tool fan, and a fan of this song, that you too see some of this expression, and thoughtfulness.

I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
