First off, I would like to give a shout out to ~lilwyverngirl because she is the most awesome person evah! This is the second picture in a community upload project to show support for others on here who are going through a hard time.Now for the real comments.
ARGHHHH! lame background is lame and will eventually be made better. Also, Livvy, as much as I love you, I am NEVER DRAWING AZUBAH AGAIN! So many spots.

And I sympathize about the spots. XD;;; I tend to draw her as an anthro more now so I can put her in clothes. That way I don't have to labor over all her spots. X3 And since I'm always wearing a hoodie or jacket of some kind and jeans no matter the weather (unless it happens to be unbearably hot) it's easy!

Le gasp, what is this contrast shading of which everyone speaks? It looks awesome!

You take the main color of your subject and pick a color that is on the opposite side of the color wheel from it and do what you normally do. The contrasting color makes the depth 'pop', I'm still trying to get it.

I tried that on the Stacy and Rodric picture, but it turned out looking weird and I had to just do it normally. D: I fails.

I do, it's mah favorite color! But it's also the color of Azubah's right eye (which you can't see here) and I figured it would be supah appropriate to add it in there somewhere. It does match her coat so well, dahling!

They do, they do. I wasn't sure how well it would work out, but I'm actually pleased with how this finished up. Now if only my background weren't so bad.
