Gabriel - Ruler of the First Heaven, Shamayim. The Angel of Abstinence.
Zachariel - One of the joint rulers of the Second Heaven, Raquia. The Angel of Humility.
Anahel - Ruler of the Third Shehaqim. The Angel of Liberality.
Michael - Ruler of the Fourth Heaven, Machonon. The Angel of Kindness
Samael - The Ruler of the Fifth Heaven, Machon. The Angel of Diligence.
Zachiel - The Ruler of the Sixth Heaven, Zebul. The Angel of Chasity.
Cassiel - The Ruler of the Seventh Heaven, Araboth. The Angel of Patience.

I read about the Seven Heavens and their ruling angels about three months ago. I think you did a great job bringing them all to life in your angelic portraits. To me, the elements of your character designs from the clothes to the facial expressions are very true to the descriptions I read in a book months ago. Very well done!

Aren't abstinence and chastity kinda the same thing? If so, then you're either missi the angel fot temperance the opposite of gluttony or you're missing the angel of charity the opposite of greed. I'm not even sure what the angel of liberality is.

Abstinence and chastity are similar, but abstinence refers mostly to things like food and alcohol. Abstinence refers to romance.

Where did you find information on the seven archangels? I'm writing a novel on the seven heavenly virtues and everyone I look for their corresponding angels they're always different or mixed up.

Truthfully, there is no real 'correct' information to look up on the virtues. There ate many, MANY different views of who and what they are based on different faiths and view points. My own characters that I have depicted here are based on the Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism. But Christianity and Islam each have their own versions as well. I recommend researching a bit into all 3 till you find something that suits your story. Angels a to z is a great place to start. I also enjoy reading straight from the Apocrypha, the Book of Enoch and The Dead Sea Scrolls (my fav translation is by Geza Vermes)

In short, because neither are mentioned by Enoch as heavenly rulers.
Azrael is an Islamic angel in origin and doesn't appear in the book of Enoch which is a Hebrew text and describes the seven mounting heavens. But it is traditional believed in Islam and some Hebrew lore that Azrael resided in the 3rd heaven.
Lucifer likewise does not appear in the book of Enoch, but in the 16th century Christian demonolgists recorded list of 7 prince of hell that opposed the 7 rulers of heaven Enoch presented. Lucifer is listed as the second prince of hell. A few sources place Lucifer as living, or having once lived, in the library of the 6th heaven.

um lucifer is a roman god of light.... the christians in their "holy" efforts to christianize all of europe, took the god along with many horned gods of the pagans and mishapped them into the christian devil......

Wow, this is such a beauiful piece of work. You represented the seven virtues so well, and the art works itself is astonishing! I love the personality that shows through each individual character, and the variety you used in the colour schemes, and in creating the different poses.

Ahhh--eh eh. They all turned out so beautifully--and I'm glad to see you have completed your project. I remember when you posted the first ones. They're all so beautiful. I especially liked Diligence, Kindness and Chastity, though the wings (especially the peacock side ) on Patience blew me away. Fantastic work and I hope you have plans for mass projects like this again. Complete with the Sins it is awesome!
