Description Acrylic on canvas, 42x54"

I never got a good photograph of this painting, the colors are off and make it look really drab.

There are some questions I am getting asked again and again, maybe my artist statement will help:

Traveling in a car is a daily routine for most people in America today. We are often caught between destinations. Much of our exposure to the surrounding landscape is from within an insulated vehicle. For those who are along for the ride, there is a detachment from the scene that is unique to the passenger side. In order to study this relationship, I have taken moments from this journey and turned them into a destination. These common scenes deserve another look. By photographing scenes as a passenger and reinterpreting them with acrylic paint on canvas, I echo the relationship between artist and viewer. The artist becomes the driver and the viewer becomes the passenger. Although my major inspiration comes from the subject itself, there are certain artists and movements that have influenced my interpretation, including Wayne Thiebaud, Edward Hopper, and the Impressionists, particularly Camille Pissarro. These artists emphasize color and light in the commonplace, and I do the same in my work. Through painting the perspective of a passenger in a car, the role of the viewer as an observer is emphasized, and the beauty of the light and color in the commonplace is revealed.

This is the first time I've found a road voluptuous; its curves almost remind me of a back, with the vantage from the shoulders, the road leading down the spine and over the small. Great work.

Beautiful. And thank you for the "Artist's Statement" It's really interesting. You obviously put a lot of thinking into this piece, and it shows!

PS. I really love the colors. You make me wish I could paint.

I remember doing a project based on Hopper's work and can see where you're coming from. I love the way you've taken a simple street and by taking it out of context and painting it, given it significance and importance. Also, I can see Hopper's influence in the use of a limited palette. I love the blues and yellows, and the texture of the tarmac in the road. I've always found acrylics incredibly difficult to use, so kudos for doing such a lovely painting in them.

We don't have too many hills around here, but again, the scene is so famil;iar, so commonplace. Yet, the way you have pushed the colors, made it seem extraordinary, is...well, just amazing! Very creative

Nice work! its very original. I dont think I've seen a painting done from the perspective of a car. Its an idea I've toy'd with myself but didn't think it would work. You have pulled it off nicely. +Fav
