so far queen crysalis , king Sombra , trixie, Tirac, Discord, sunset shimmer. there are some other pics up ill keep adding more as i go

Changeling drones would make easy pawns, Tirac & discord knights maybe, Sunset & trixie bishops, as for rooks...perhaps monsters? Like timberwolf, hydra, etc.

And ack, what about Nightmare Moon? Or Nightmare Rarity? Maybe they'd be better rooks, since they match pretty well, then each set of pieces would match in horn number~ Yay, symmetry!

The good side would be tough, since there are so many good guys. Celestia, Luna, and the mane 6 fill up the back row already, pawns could either be canterlot guards or BG ponies, prolly the latter to match the match the other side (unless there were enough monsters on the opposite side to counter them, would be more work but might be fun - hard to forget Gilda, the diamond dogs, parasprites, flim & flam, even babs seed & diamond tiara ).

And as for protagonist piece assignments, tough to say if the king/queen would be celestia/luna, or put twilight in one of those positions since she's the main protagonist. Might make them interchangeable & leave it up to the player, have a ring that goes around the base to denote position or something. Though if the sisters were king/queen then Twilight/Rarity would make good bishops, RD/Fluttershy knights (maybe even in the Crystal empire jousting gear), and AJ/Pinkie Pie Rooks.

i have changeling minions as pawns on one side half made up . 
and royal guards on the other side made. 

there are so many i could add, its sad i have to miss some out.
