Excerpt from ‘The Adventurers’ Guide to Dungeons and Monsters’ by Professor Hardvale:

It may be tempting to assume that a sufficiently prepared team of adventurers can match the strength of any monster. As anyone who has read this far into my works would know, this is far from the case. Some monsters possess such strength, only an army could oppose them. Many of these monsters could besiege whole citadels alone.

One such monster is the kraken, which is not only colossal in size, but capable of powerful psionic abilities. Kraken are much like mermaid, being aquatic and vaguely humanoid in form, but with squidlike appendages as opposed to a fishlike tail. However, their chief trait is the aforementioned size.

Kraken are highly territorial, preferring to remain in the darkest depths of the ocean, but make no mistake, they watch the surface with a keen eye. Many of them create legions of thralls to sustain their greed and gluttony. Some even turn to piracy. This behavior is peculiar among behemoth monsters, and perhaps worthy of study.
